Slight metallic scraping - Identification help please

Hi folks
Warning I am not technical so numpty alert alarm should be pre-primed!
I'm looking to see if anyone can offer suggestions of what expensive thing may need replacing! I have an intergalactic mileage Mk1 MX5 which has a very slight metallic scraping sounding noise coming from, I think, the wheels. I can only really hear it when going past close walls / parked cars etc and that's making pinpointing the side very difficult. The sound does not worsen on lock.
It's not engine or gear related from what I can tell. I had wondered if it might be wheel bearings.
My local chap couldn't see anything on a cursory inspection but did mention the brakes (pads and disks) were borderline so I'm replacing those and also mentioned the springs were on their last legs, I'd already ordered new coil-overs so just waiting for those to be replaced.
Ideally, with all the work going on to replace springs and brakes I'd like to get this mystery sound sorted as well before the Le Mans trip, would you think it'd be worth investing in new wheel-bearings anyway? Just to replace them whilst everything else is off?
I've searched many vids but not found anything like the whispering scraping sound I'm getting. Wheel-bearing vids seem much louder and deeper. It's regular and relates to speed but is not a permanent scraping so if something is catching it's not catching through the entire wheel rotation, could it just be brakes? Would that make sense for worn brakes?

I just cured a knocking noise under braking on my MK1. All of the brake pads were gummed up with brake dust and one jammed completely.
A quick strip, clean and regrease has cured one dragging wheel, the knocking sound and improved brake feel and performance.
Wheel bearings usually make a rumbling or a droning sound.
