Don't know if that was directed at me or the guy with the borla exhaust but this is the one I bought:

Also got a set of these after I went OTT with the light tinting spray and ruined my standard lights:

For those thinking about a Cobalt cat-back exhaust, they can be sourced for £149.94 with £10 delivery until the end of the month.

Details on the Max Fives facebook group - great deal!

Deal running until the end of August.

I am trying NOT to spend the money I am saving for new alloys on one of these...

It was exhaust or alloys for me too but with that discount it made it a no brainer to skim the funds and get an exhaust, will just have to run standard alloys for a bit longer

Mine is an 1990 import, so it's been decatted.. I believe it's just the borla backbox! I was trying to upload a sound clip last night of it, I'll try again tonight. Mines a simple single exit one too, so I'm not even sure it was made for the car!

Ah, right. The one I've heard was on a 1.8 with an otherwise standard exhaust. I suspect the decat will have a fair effect on the Borla as it has a deeper throatier note.

(this will auto play!)

For future reference, that's how my borla sounds. Pretty cringey around town!

So I gave in biggrin

Actually, Mrs Chimp is gonna buy it for my christmas so it'll be getting put away - no idea how she'll fit it under the tree!!

So for £159.94 delivered I got the cat-back AND the lambda sensor blanking plate - what a deal.

I'm trying to resist buying a splitter now, already bought a rivet on ducktail spoiler this morning

I've just fitted the MX5parts single exit exhaust to our venerable mk1. It was surprisingly easy, although one of the stupider jobs I've done with the car on axle stands. On ramps or a lift it would have been a doddle. I expected the hardest part to be getting the old cat to exhaust nuts off, but a bit of penetrating oil earlier in the week and application of a 12" breaker bar got them off in no time. In fact the most challenging bit was working out how to thread the old one piece exhaust out from between the diff and the framework bracing the rear suspension points. In the end I dropped the frame a couple of inches and out it popped.

The MX5Parts exhaust looks like quite a nice bit of kit. It all lined up perfectly with the standard rubber mounts, was supplied with gaskets, and the only thing I had to pay attention to was to get everything lined up supported by a jack before I tightened up the joins. That was only because I didn't have a lot of clearance to work under the stands, so my fault not the exhaust's!

So far the sound is nice and burbly, quite subtle, although I still have the cat. The main benefit is that I don't have a rear box that rattles like a tin of nails, so I'm looking forward to hearing it when I can give the car a proper blast.
