Nissan 370z as a daily driver
Discussion
Does anyone use a Nissan 370Z as a daily driver?
Are they comfy/reliable/not too bad on running costs? (obviously I'm not expecting Micra running costs!)
I only do about 15-20k miles a year but a lot of town etc.
Just considering one but it'll be my daily car as well as weekend fun. I have another more boring car for the family.

My 370z has been my daily drive for the last 2 years and hasn't missed a beat.
Apart from fuel (but you can get decent mpg on a run) and tax ... it doesn't cost much to insure and service.
Still very happy with it ! Just factor in a decent exhaust as the standard one is definitely too quiet !

Hi there,
Just saw this by chance as I'm rarely in this part of the forum.
Your situation sounds identical to mine. I run a 370Z as a daily driver and do circa 20k a year in it. I do a lot of city driving, slogging into Manchester centre every day and back. I also use it to visit clients and as a weekend car and on track, so it has to meet a lot of demands. I average around 22mpg city commuting and can get low thirties easily on a motorway cruise at 85 to 90 leptons. I find this pretty damn good for a 3.7 V6.
it meets my needs brilliantly. I chose the paddle shift auto and it is fantastic. Auto box makes city driving a breeze, whilst the paddles married with the synchro rev feature make it exciting in a good road. It's very punchy when fully lit, with a fat torque curve and the brakes and suspension are good out of the box. I did a Petrolhead Nirvana Alpine Tour last year and it matched an Evora S and Porsche 997 911 for performance and also did a good job of just about hanging onto some super cars in the twisty bits. It really is a huge amount of car for the money and mine has been totally reliable, despite being driven hard in Europe over 3,000 miles along with its daily duties. They come with lots of toys as standard - xenons, heated seats, cruise, Bose stereo, Bluetooth interface and hands free.
It also makes a remarkably good track car - at a recent day at Oulton I was overtaking all sorts on track, including some much more expensive German and Italian cars (tuition helps!). I must have done at least 30 hard laps after which I drove home with no drama and it resumed it casually its daily duties as if nothing had ever happened.
Only downsides are that the sat nav is possessed by an evil spirit and likes to mess me up, occasionally taking weird routes to places that local knowledge wouldn't encourage. The in-built hands free is utterly useless and the cabin noise is above average. However, I don't really notice that anymore. Also the standard exhaust makes it sound st, but there are some great mature aftermarket options available. I fitted a cobra exhaust and it made it sound lovely without interfering with cruising or daily driving.
I'm smitten with mine and it's the first car I've owned where I am not thinking about what I want next. The owners club http://www.350z-uk.com/index.html is a great resource and the people are really friendly.
I'm in the Jap forum oddly enough as I'm looking at buying a Lexus barge for daily duties. Not because the Z isn't up to the task, but simply because I want to reduce the miles I do in it as I want to keep it for the foreseeable and don't want to wear it out too quickly!
Hope this helps anyway. I have to dash now, but if you want to chat in more detail add me on Facebook - I'm James Wetherall in Manchester in a black tuxedo. I can send you some useful links and a few sound clips if you like. You're also welcome to have a closer look and a passenger ride in mine if you are local. I'm based on the east side of Manchester but will be attending a meet in Dudley on Sunday if that's nearer to you. There will be a number of Zs there including a rare roadster and another friends supercharged monster and the owners will be happy to chat and show you around their cars.

I use my 370z as a daily (20k/year). Previously had an S2 exige, 350z nismo and awful bmws 330 coupe m-sport for the same job.
370z has a good amount of torque and great for use everyday. Running costs are low, mpg is 25-30 depending on use. Nothing goes wrong- same as my 350z.
The 350z is more 'adjustable' on the road but not something you'll really notice on a commute. There is a lot more power in the 370z. I would add that having driven modified 370z's, they do benefit from high flow cats, exhaust, intakes and a remap. Personal preference though.
