Hi all,

I'm looking at MK1 MX5's.

I'm looking at some from a specialist, similar age and condition. I've done a search on here and this thread is quite useful
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I can't decide between a nice mariner blue, or a green V spec. The colour is nicer, but the leather, nardi bits and air conditioning (if it works/doesn't break) would be nice. From what I understand most don't work as they use the R12 system.

Are the V spec cars worth £200-£300 more than a standard car? On the flip side I'm thinking the cloth interior is better on a warm day and is just more 'basic' in a good way.

Thanks.

The best MX-5 is the least rusty MX-5, all other spec is secondary (although I wouldn't look at a car with no power steering). Finding a V-Special with non knackered leather will be tricky - in my experience the leather trim in Mk1 MX-5s is a bit nasty from 1989 through to 1998 so I would be happy with cloth (you can swap them cheaply enough with superior Mk2.5 seats later if you want).
