I've taken my eyes off the classifieds the last year or so. However, is it just me or have Skyline and many other JDM Models prices gone a bit daft?

I believe it's linked to some cars now being old enough to be imported legally into USA. The R32 GTR is now at silly money!

What he says (above).

R32 GTRs are now legal to be purchased in the US . Certain cars (like the Skyline GTR models) are not allowed in the US until they become 25 years old which, when they do, affects supply, demand and ultimately auction prices. R33 GTRs are a bargain at the minute for what they offer and I reckon their value will increase in circa 2019 when they are eligible for import into the US.

Some Japanese cars are way undervalued anyway so it's about time prices picked up. Take an immaculate Celica GT4 ST205, say a late 90s car They can be had for a three times less the price of an Escort Cosworth, which is hardly three times the car (if much better). I saw one of these recently in immaculate condition with low miles for £7500. On another note. I've had a mate just sell his rattly old Mk2 Escort for £25k. WTF?

Gorgeous car. I remember when you could get one for circa £10k!

Just as an aside to that, prices in Japan have gone nuts as well

A facelift Forester STI was about Y900k this time last year, up closer to Y2m now....

Probably realised how many of the good cars have left the country in the last decade or so!

The exchange rate is terrible now as well. Yen has increased about 20% against the £ over the last 6 months or so.

About 18mths ago you could pick up a freshly imported red Evo TME from an importer/dealer for around £12k.

You'd pretty much need to double that now.
