And done what no self respecting petrolhead ever should. Bought a car unseen, undriven and at a cheeky bid.

I had a 1999 UK Turbo a few years ago. I swapped it, in Carlisle, for the import DC2 Integra type R I owned that drank more oil thank I do cans of Stella. I liked the Scoob, the daft loud exhaust pissed me off a bit and the STI rear wing and P1 chin spoiler didn't help the chav impression that the exhaust created before people even saw the car coming round he corner. Here it is:

What did leave a last impression was the driving experience. I loved the steering weight and feel as well as nick, snick of the gearbox. The ability to drive everywhere sideways in snowy conditions sealed the car in my memory as an absolute hoot. Conveniently time has allowed me to forget the thirst it had for super unleaded, that will be about to change.

I've just bought this.

Spurred on by the thought that these things are (hopefully) away to start creeping in value, the colour was right, as are the gold wheels, and that it has had relatively few owners, fully Subaru stamped service book and little done to barry it up it caught my eye in the classifieds.

But it was in Antrim, I'm short of cash so, a wee tweet saying what a nice car I thought it was would be the end of it. And it was, until a good friend of mine (and local car dealer) said he had a mate in Antrim, another dealer, who would go and look at it for me.

Meh, what could possibly...

It was out of budget so, apart from wasting a man's time to find out it was a dog even a cheeky bid wouldn't secure it, I said I'd like him to go and scope it out for me. Ivan, my man in Antrim went and had a look the following day as promised. And phoned, as promised. It's as good as it looks in the pics, apparenly, HPI clear, great value motor, in his opinion. Drives well, he's seen the documented history, even the back arches are rust free but may have seen a blow-over.

bks. The Mrs is starting at me. She has that "you better effing not" look in here eyes.

Ivan tells me the dealer's best price. Still over budget. I tell Ivan my top line. He'll ask. Phone call ends.

Ivan called back. Seller agrees to my bid. The car is mine. Ah crap. It's in Ireland. WTF am I going to do to get it home and, more importantly, where am I going to put it. We already have a Disco and a Transit Custom filling up the drive.

To be continued...

Worry about where to put it later, it looks good. Get rid of the disco, transit, , , , or wife?

Don't be scared, I only drove 10 miles to get my Classic but I flew from Bristol to Inverness to pick up a Porsche I'd had checked the same way you have the Scoobie but had never seen in the flesh.

The 500 mile drive home was a proper road trip!

If you got that for much less than 5K it's got to be good smiles per pound ratio. Here's hoping that all that rust on the MOT history is just cosmetic. *fingers crossed for you*

The dealer who sold that car frequents the local forums and seems to be a genuine guy.

If anyone wants a completely standard UK Turbo2000, 1999, 82k and completely genuine (this is the second time I've owned her), let me know. If my daughter allows me the time to get mine washed and photographed it will go in the PH classifieds later today.
Link, please?

Yep this one sounds like it has a few rust issues. Would be interested to see how/if they were resolved.
