mx5 6 speed box
Discussion
Thanks for that Lazza, i will when i get a chance in the day, after reading all the post from the other members it seems i am wasting my time trying to up the gearing. Whats your view on a re map? Evolution chips are charging £195 for a remap that apparently give 9 bhp extra and 17 more torque.Do you think it's worth it.
Whereabouts are you based?
To be honest there's not much you can do to improve the MPG of an MX5 other than drive it slower. 5th gear at 30mph is also the wrong gear really, low down in the revs like that is going to use more fuel than if you we're in 4th as overtime you try and modulate your speed the engine is laboured and you open the throttle loads to try and build speed.

Coming from a Turbo Diesel to a normally aspirate petrol must seem quite strange. Is this your first non turbo diesel car?
I've generally only ever driven petrols so I have the opposite problem of constantly revving the nuts off my Yeti when changing gear at 2500rpm is better for making good progress.
Old habits die hard!
