Are they worth it if just looking for a cheap replacement for worn shocks or a true case of you get what you pay for and a myriad of issues?

I fitted a set of raceland coilovers to my sons mx5 they were fine, no issues at all and much better than the old shot ones we took off. Tip though don't lose the nut from the rears down the side of the boot as it is an odd metric fine thread!

I fitted a set of Racelands to my Mk 1 about 5 years ago (think they were around £175 a set in those days), and they're still on there. Nothing wrong with them at all. Lowered the car about an inch. You can go further, but I didn't like the idea of scraping the bottom on every speed bump in town so kept it sensible.

If you want coilovers purely for aesthetic purposes and you're not too worried about comfort then they'll be fine. If you want a degree of comfort and improved handling I would thoroughly recommend sourcing a decent second hand set of HSD or Meister R coilovers, they can be had for not much more than your budget.

I haven't seen a set of half decent coilovers going for less than £400 for a fair few months though. No idea what these super cheap coilovers are like though. When 4 oem shocks are more than a full set of coilovers though I am naturally a bit sceptical.

I had the raceland mk2 coilovers on my mk1 with new mk2 rear top mounts.

I believe the raceland ones can be branded a few names but are all the same.

Were great on my car. Much better than the bilsteins that they replaced. Handling and comfort were great. Sure HSD's etc are a step above but I would be more than happy with racelands if your on a budget.
