As winter is here and i have always fancied an Impreza, plus there are a few for sale for around the £2000 mark i am very tempted to buy one as a second car.It would only be 1.5r or rx and i know everyone says that they are guttless wonders but i have wanted to own an Impreza with a flat four engine ever since i first saw one in 1995.
I know that running costs will be quite high but my question is are parts readily available and at a reasonable price from suppliers other than Subaru?
Please dont reply telling me to buy wrx or anything turboed.

Kevin

Kevin, I ran a GX Wagon as a winter run-around a number of years ago, it was great fun and super cheap to run. Bought with low mileage [55k with fully documented history] for only £1400, gave the car a very thorough service, then sold two years later for £1900. Not once did it let me down. Pick up your service parts from Import Car Parts http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/

2k will get you a tidy ish 2.0R, 2.0gx or an older 2.0gl impreza.
Much better on the performance front, 1.5 is stupidly slow and the 2.0 is a much better drive, along with not much difference in economy.
That money could even stretch to a 2.0 legacy if the extra space is needed!

Surely the answer is the 'classic' 2.0 Sport? - looks like a turbo (aside from the bonnet vent), but has sensible insurance costs.
