You can get them cheaper, you just have to be prepared to travel to pick it up. I got mine for £250 - no need for a softop anymore as I prefer the car with the hardtop, both dynamically and aesthetically. Removing the softop saved me 30lbs+ in weight, so its win win - next on my list is a carbon fibre hard top, 12lbs FTW!
Problem with that is. Where to get the glass. I dont think it'll come out of an original hardtop with out turning in to 1000 pieces.

Ah. Ones I had seen previously came without glass. With glass thats not a bad buy.

Are they showing a defect in one of the pictures to prove it's real carbonfibre!

Is that one £600 for the damaged/broken one they have in the advert or for a good one? If it's for a good one it seems pretty odd that they'd use a damaged on in their advert confused

I'd be a bit wary of using a cf hard-top anyway. Hard-tops are a bit of a theft target and a cf one would be even more attractive to a thief.

A hard top is one of those things that everyone wants when they first buy an MX-5. They think it'll be warmer & more comfortable in the winter. To a degree they are right, it is a more cosy place with a hard-top on but it really isn't a necessity unless you have to park on the road in a dodgy area in which case it would be needed all year round so maybe a convertible isn't the best choice of cars.
MX-5s have a small cabin area and a very powerful heater so it warms up very quickly. As long as it's in good condition and fits properly then there is also little wind noise too considering how thin a vinyl top is.
If you aren't sure you need one, my advice would be to go without for the first winter and see how you get on. I've had MX-5s for 10 years and have never really felt the need for one.
^^^ What he said; I thought I wanted one, spent ages to find a car with one. In the end, I never really liked it, it sqeaked when I had it on the car (mk1) and I don't think that it was any warmer/more watertight. Probably used about 3 times in 2 years of owning the car.

In the end I sold it on ebay for £550.

interestly, two weeks before I bought the car, I was with my best mate looking for s2000's at S2K4U - the owner there said this:

Get one if you like, but you won't use it as much as you think that you will, you loose the spontaneity that comes from just being able to drop the softtop when you went out on a day that started miserable, and turned nice. You'll also resent the space it takes up in your garage/house.
I ignored him at the time; but he was spot on.

Can anyone help? Got my hard top on and it looks great and gives great visibilty when the screen is clear, but need to get myself a switch for the dash and connect up the heater. Only problem is the connector block on the car is completely different to the one on the roof. I thought it would simply be plug it in and fit the switch. Is it because my car is mk1 and the roof is mk2? Thanks.

How much would you be willing to pay for a brand new Carbon Fibre one?

Exactly the same as a standard one with the same features (padded, heated or whatever).

Why thinking of getting some made?

Does anybody know how much space there is between the lining and the roof itself? Is it flush?

None the lining is stuck on.

There are 3 main types.

Non lined
Usual Lined - an approx 3mm thick black foam stuck onto the roof
Early (TWR IIRC) lined - nice fabric with sponge / foam behind (maybe 3-5mm) stuck to roof.

I've never known what all the fuss (and price difference) is about.

You could line a non lined roof in about 20 mins for around £10.
