Imported nearly new Mx5. Any problems?

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this section, I'm usually over in the American car forum.
My wife is looking to buy a nearly new Mx5. 2006 new shape. She's only got an automatic license so we need an auto car. The autos arnt sold in the UK (until the facelift comes out later this year) so our only option is to get an imported car from Japan.
We're hearing myths about imported cars; saying suspension etc is different on Jap cars. Is this just white lies told by Maxda salesmen or true?

It's true. Jap market cars have different springs.
However...
It would be more true to say that UK market cars have different springs. The car was designed for the springs they have in Jap market. The UK cars are fitted with taller springs so it can pass pedestrian safety regulations. These springs and the resulting ride height & geometry are a bit rubbish. A very common 1st mod on UK cars is to fit Eibach springs with brings everything back to how it was designed to be.
