Well, I got my MX5 in December 2006 - the x4 p6000's on her were in very good condition but strangely enough were not contained within the service history, but they were obviously fairly new and had plenty of tread on them.

I've only done about 17k since I got her and on the same tyres - there is still plenty of tread left but I would think they will probably be on the way out within 5k or so.

I might replace them all before her MOT in September. Due to my scottish blood I want to spend as little as possible - whats the best bet - p6000s at £50/wheel? ? £140.00 for the Toyos as Lazza kindly linked to? 34.20/wheel for Yokohamas?

I don't want to spend the earth as I only use her at weekends and in good weather but I don't want to die either!

Yokos are good in dry and poor in wet. The P6000 you have are average wet & dry. Toto T1R are excellent dry and very good wet. GY F1 GSD3 are excellent dry and wet.

Problem is, to a large extent, the better the tyres are the quicker they will wear out. Personally I'd take better grip in all conditions over tyre life.

If you're happy with the P6000s you'll be super happy with Toyo T1-R and they are reasonably cheap - on 14" wheels you need to go for 195/55/14 in the Toyos which puts the price up a bit. If you have 15" wheels, they are a bit cheaper. I have a set of P6000s in the garage which I use occasionally when I want to slip and slide at a trackday - there are MUCH better tyres out there (including my current favourite - Marangoni Zeta Linea - very grippy in the dry - so,so in the wet)

My current tyre collection:
195/50 15 - Marangoni Zeta Linea - dirt cheap and very grippy in in the dry - watch out when cold and wet.
195/50 15 - Toyo T1-R - reasonably priced, reasonable in the dry and ok in the wet - Goodyear Eagle F1 is a better allrounder
185/60 14 - Pirelli P6000 - progressive in the dry but not a lot of ultimate grip - watch out big time when wet!

Previous tyres:
195/50 15 - Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 - the best allrounder I've tried but pricy and hard to come by now.
195/50 15 - Bridgestone Potenza SO-3 - grippy in the dry and just about as grippy in the wet. Can't get them now :-(
195/50 15 - Toyo R888 GG - ultra grippy when they get heat in them, noisy on the road and don't like puddles! Very, very expensive for normal roa use - leave them for competition!

Not really. About £30 each from Camskill delivered then extra to get them fitted & balanced. It shouldn't cost anywhere near £60 - I paid £20 at WiM!

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 - as good as others have said on dry and wet surfaces...if you can get hold of them. Just avoid snow and ice on those though...my lord, I nearly soiled myself...

4 Toyos from Camskill delivered works out at £149.80:

....so would need to find tyre fitting for less than £30....swings and roundabouts I would say.
