Morning folks,

If I buy a decat pipe (from mx5parts for example) for my 1990 1.6, is it going to be worthwhile?

Will I notice any increase in power?
Will it affect the running of the engine in any way? (what about the O2 sensor?)
How much noisier will it get, and what will it sound like?

Cheers
biggrin

probs get around 400-450bhp.......

smile

It will sound wicked, quite raspy until it cokes up, combined with a s/s manifold and s/s exhaust you'll get the best out of it. Mine is very loud combined with the dual exit exhaust from mx5 parts, but it makes me smile everytime I drive!

It'll help the car breathe more easily but wont make you go faster!

I fitted one a couple of months ago, 'cause my old cat had broken up and was buzzing and rattling all the time. Not sure if it has really made much difference TBH, perhaps the noise is a little deeper from the exhaust.

Anyone fancy doing a soundclip of either a decat scenario, or decat plus mild exhaust? Those with stupid loud exhausts need not apply hehe

I believe the 02 sensor is upstream of the CAT so won't make a difference.

No, it's still on my 'to-do' list. This weekend I cannot frankly be ar$ed (LOL).

Actually Howard, since having my lovely little 5 banged-up by a numpty driving too fast in icy conditions back in early February, my motivation for lavishing TLC on it has waned somewhat. I am pursuing his insurers for the damage he caused but because it requires a front wing, drivers door and a repair to the rear wing, I fear this will render my car a write-off frown

As you can imagine, it's a little difficult to get motivated in this situation it even grates washing the car (something I normally quite enjoy) because this just reminds me what a state it's in frown

Poor little 5 frown Keep at it, pattern parts aren't that expensive for the 5s. Someone else had theirs crashed into recently on here, and it was being repaired. Even if they do write it off, buy it back smile

Interested in hearing a clip as well.

DTMs car has a standard exhaust with a decat and it sounded quite nice. Ours has a dual exit MX5 parts exhaust and i'm considering a MX5 parts sports cat.

That's the exhaust I have, and I swapped the decat off for a cat as it was so loud.

That's what worries me. The car is a daily driver so it can't be too annoying! I've been looking at the silenced cat bypass pipe from MX5Parts
