Well, having dithered for long enough I’ve decided to embrace my mid life crisis and have bought a cheap and cheerful ‘91 1.6 Eunos for weekends and track days. Not bodily perfect (but no rust) – I went for mechanical condition and plentiful evidence that the previous owner had looked after it (thanks Steve!).

Of course, the fun with buying older cars is working out what’s been done to them. This one has Bilstein dampers, but I gather these were original equipment on some Eunos? However, it also has drilled front discs which must be an upgrade, and what appear to be triangular holes cut behind the seats, I’m guessing for a roll bar. Wish the owner had left it in place!

It’s running on 14” Minilite style wheels but the tyres, apart from being a brand I’ve never heard of (never a good thing in my book) are the wrong size at 175/65 instead of 185/60. Lots of tread on them but I’m thinking they’ve got to go.

Which brings me on to my questions. I’m happy with the standard tyre size since I’m going for adjustable handling and fun, rather than all out speed. Scanning what’s available on the web, Camskill are very competitive on Falkens and I’ve had good experience of Falkens before. However, different tyres suit different cars and I just wondered if anyone had any experience or comments on how Falkens work on MX5s.

Secondly, I gather from numerous threads on here that the thing to do is to get a geometry check at WiM. Roughly how long does this take and how much does it cost?

And finally (for now!) my throttle has a slight jerkiness around the very first part of its travel, making it challenging to drive smoothly in slow traffic. If cable adjustment doesn’t fix it I’ll try a new cable, unless people tell me “they all do that, sir!”

Sorry, just thought of another question, if I want to fit a full harness, where do I fix the shoulder straps?

That’s it thanks. I’ll get my coat…

Hi I changed my 14" eunos wheels to Rota alloys 15" with Toyo 195/50 R15 82V and they look fantastic. I changed them myself last july. then i took it to have all four wheels aligned and it cost me £86 so I reckon you should pay no more than that. Check your drain holes are not blocked. Also I would visit a garage where they can do you a basic waxoyl underneath, mine was done jan and it cost £46 at Paul Sheard Autos in cheshire.

I just had a puncture on my back wheel and I have got a replacement for £37 from camskill for a toyo tyre.
