100% fact. Its a software change. Whether its done or not I'm unsure. But Id be surprised if it wasn't. It would indicate an incompetent tuner if it wasn't.
Why introduce more points of failure with a piece of hardware?

The only reason I ask is you would imagine it would be a feature something like a Diablo Predator would be able to change, but they make not mention. (nor do any of the other devices I've looked at)

If you use something proper like efilive then you will see that the world opens up. You just need to set the operating parameters so it never triggers the condition to allow the skip shift and the job is done. Im not sure if the OP is having a proper tune done on the install or not, but if so Id expect this to already be done. The settings below are stock BTW.

Spoke to the SLP guys, and I didn't take any chances, so I ordered the skip shift eliminator.
And I've also found a set of "afterburners" that are on their way too... (afterburners = tail lights as on the Camaro concept).

Until I got the exhaust work done I would have disagreed. I think it's partly perception, with the correct sound track it feels faster. Also I think there has also been an actual increase in power.
After about 10 months of not being too sure, I now am!!!
I fecking love it, downsides and all. Hello mate, as someone who is interested in a rag top I'm intreagued by this post! What have the downsides been?

Close, but... No Stripe tips are being repainted, they're not rounded enough and were too far forward. (no stencil available for the Bee stripes with the custom hood) Tonight's attempt: Outer edge "curves" should be on the inner part of the Rally stripe, and then they should have it really close to the real Bee, I think.... (Maybe they might have to have the pin stripe a bit back further, where the big stripe stops now, I reckon) Boot lid needs a bit of correction too... the stripes are crooked (I think the perspective on the example pictures has misled the paint guy).

you're not wrong on those front stripes. Just looking at mine and they extend to just before then of the hood and the perspective looks right on them. How far forward do you intend yours to go?

How far forward do you intend yours to go? If you look at the left side (2nd pic), the part that's been repainted: the pin stripe should be where the big inner stripe is, the big stripe one "step" more backwards (as in what they have done with the "new" one compared to the first one). I know I may sound pedantic about it, but with the money I pay for the paint job alone, I want it spot on... not just something that "looks like it from a distance".

Today, 6 August: - Stripe tips on the bonnet being remasked (in progress at time of pics) - Boot lid being remasked to create the parallel stripes Bowtie hasn't been done like I asked, but I'm thinking of ordering one from the US, the way I want it. Wheels were in progress of being repainted. Silver was done (just like the door handle, black parts were missing (no pictures as there was only one wheel on a stand somewhere) Should be finished in two weeks time, so I can pick it up after the holidays.

The sides of the "cross" are half red, half black, equalling out the width... so I might just ask them to still do that

LOL... Yeah, I'm a freak when it comes to details IF it was possible, I'd even have the door handles done like the real Bumblebee, and have the gas cap relocated to the concept's place (thinking about that somehow).
