I've been offered what I think is a good deal on a Jeep GC 4.7.

It's a 'V' reg, 80k on the clocks with 9 months ticket and taxed until January. It's been a company vehicle so has wanted for nothing, with immaculate service history, diff oil changed at the right times, it's cosmetically very clean, 4 good tyres on 1 year old Startech rims. Seems top spec (Limited?) with leather etc.

The seller is a long standing mate who's said he'd like about £1500-£1600 but if I want it he'll take £1000 for the benefit of an easy sale to avoid all the 'Lowest price M8' texts and associated hassle.

I'm currently doing my 12 mile daily commute in a V6 Vauxhall Omega which as the 6 mile journey is so short, it's returning about 23mpg. I do about 350 miles a month.

I'm not skint as such, but I've got young kids and so haven't got money to burn!
Is this V8 Jeep going to ruin me, or is it a case of MTFU, you only live once, and every man should own a V8 at some point in their lives smile

I should add, the OH has horses and we tow a horse box, and live in a rural(ish) location so a proper 4x4 really would have benefits.

Well we had a 52 plate 4.7 grand cherokee overland and we used to get about 15mpg around town and upto 28 on a run, epic machine and my missis has missed it since the day we sold it and would love another one, so if you can afford the juice they are lovely to drive (once you get used to the way 4x4 drive) power is great fun, sound gorgeous, amazing in the snow, we had it when we had all the bad snow a few years back and t was simply epic, did all the shopping runs for friends, towed out people that were stuck and had great fun, a v reg one is a bit old fashioned compared to he one we had which was a facelift version, but if you like it then go have some fun for a year or two, issues to look out for is the heating controls, if they don't work hot to cold that's a grand to fix for a new unit, make sure the gearbox feels good and it shifts into high and low 4 wheel drive, but I would take it for a run and see how you feel.

Good advice, thank you. The more I think about it, the more I'm talking myself into it!

Will 1 day insure it and pop up for a test drive this weekend I think...
