Aye, if you don't mind struggling to find parking and 8mpg laugh

Great car though, love a big caddy.
Agree that suburban high street parking is quite a challenge(!), but it averages 15-18 mpg depending on how it’s driven.
To explain, it started life with the Olds 350 diesel and was then retrofitted some years ago with an Olds 307ci, as was used in the mid-eighties Fleetwoods etc. It’s also had all the emissions gear removed.
So it’s no speedster, but the gas consumption is tolerable.

Old American V8's can be surprisingly frugal, especially when the 700R4 / 4L60E was put in. A friend had a 90's era Roadmaster with the LT1 and would routinely get 28(US) MPG on the highway. That's about 33mpg (imp).

First yank was a '65 Galaxie sedan with 289 2 bbl engine and 3 speed manual......that would easily 'pull' 25 mpg on a cross country journey and squeeze 28 mpg if speeds kept below 50 mph.

Lads, I’m aware that V8s will do more than single figures. It was a joke based on the famous thirst of the big caddy V8s

Yep......back in the mid 70's when manufacturers were only concerned about their bloated, ultra-low compression V8 engines getting thru emissions sub 10 mpg figures were a reality.......much as the 'hop-up' guts would install huge carbs, radical 'rumpity - rumpity' huge overlap cams, again giving sub 10 mpg figures too........

I'm a weirdo who loves malaise era styling.

The 80's G body cars are probably my favourite American cars.
I'm with you there. I do love the 50s for that ridiculously OTT style, but the utilitarian boxy shapes of the late 70s into the 80s just resonate with me. Probably because I'm a child of the 80s. Lot more practical to live with too. I can park my El Camino pretty much anywhere and it'll fit.
Lovely ‘81 Bonneville for sale on eBay.

Haven't been active on here in a while!

Not sure if anyone remembers but just before Covid hit i bought a 2007 Mustang GT Convertible.
Loved it , but after a couple of years i lost use of the little garage i had access to and had to move to a car storage facility.

This meant , for the first time in my life , my dream of buying a 1950's American classic suddenly wasn't limited by space.

Spent a year or so nosing around a 1957 Cadillac Series 62 , but it turned out not to be.

So here we are!

Sold My Mustang , and in May of this year i bought this.

Meet "Priscilla" the 1956 Plymouth Belvedere Sports Sedan.
277cu in V8 , Two tone paint, Whitewall tyres , Fins and Chrome.
Briar Rose over eggshell white. My first foray into classic cars , and loving it so far!

The second year of Virgil Exners "Forward Look"
Had Fins a year before GM did!

She's been out and about this summer , but is tucked up for winter now.

Podium Place
GRRC Breakfast Club
Alton Classic Car Show
Retro Festival at Newbury
Redhill Dream Cruise - (Seriously awesome event , even if we did run out of Electricity!)
Goodwood Revival.

Achieved a dream i've held for nearly 15 years at age 30. Happy with that!

Congrats to that nice and slightly offscale Belvedere! Great looking car!

And these boats drive surprisingly agile and contemporary, my mechanic owns a (slightly modified) Pontiac Chieftain and it is quite enjoyable.

You are correct to be pedantic! GM had fins back in 48 with Cadillac!

What i meant to say was before GM's entry in the low price 3 had fins smile

What do you mean by offscale out of interest?

It's definitely not the yank the public will point to first when discussing 'murrican cars, and 4door as well.
Typical yank in the eye of Joe Public are Mustangs, Camaros, cars known from movies, like Novas, Challengers, Chargers. That's it
Seldom it goes beyond these, sadly.
Didn't mean in any way derogatory

Just picked up this 1992 Ford F-350. Has a 7.5l V8 engine paired to a 5-speed manual. Gets about 8MPG.

Returning to the UK next year so couldn't think of a reason not to own something silly.
