Hey matt
That charger is beautiful and I bet it goes like a rocket. What's the paddle shifting like? A little sluggish or fast and responsive
I held off responding to this, as it was directed toward someone else, but thought I'd chuck in my experience, as Matt is presumably otherwise engaged right now. That charger is beautiful and I bet it goes like a rocket. What's the paddle shifting like? A little sluggish or fast and responsive
The 5G-Tronic/NAG transmission is the same as the one I had in my 300C SRT8 - though minus the paddle-shift. It is a very stout and reasonably fast reacting transmission that is improved quite dramatically by a Diablo Predator flash-tune, which allows some nifty adaptation to the trans control module. The result is altered (red-line) shift points, faster and more positive up-shift speed and alteration of clutch locking points.
I have a 2015 Challenger 392 with the new ZF/Torqueflite 8 speed transmission with paddle-shift and 'track pak' control from the dash. Compared to the 5G-Tronic it is lightning fast (a couple of hundredth's of a second on up-shifts) and the gearing is such that this 2 ton car accelerates quite spectacularly. Stock, it's less than 4.5 0-60 and around 9 secs to 100. With a Diablo Trinity flash and sticky DR tires 0-60 can be achieved un sub 4 secs, which is kind of outrageous.
This transmission rev-matches down-shifts in sport and track pak modes and in those settings gives very positive, thumping gear changes, however when is default (street) mode it is docile, silky smooth and refined, so a real Jekyll and Hyde.
The auto versions of the 392ci application also allow for MDS (not available on 6 sp manual) so trickling around town on light throttle has you running on 4 cylinders, which means the overall fuel consumption improvement satisfies the manufacturers CAFE mandate (new models have to achieve better mpg than the models they replace).
