Hi all ... A friend of mine is looking to sell his Camaro. He knows I've always liked it so offered it to me first! I'm tempted because it's not massively expensive ( about £10,000) and I could tinker with it etc. Was wondering if any of you guys would mind giving some advice.
It's in OK useable condition but a long way from concourse.No rust on the outside, and appears to be solid underneath. It's an automatic, split bumper model. It's done 60,000 miles on the odo.
So assuming it's in reasonable order, is it worth that kind of money? How would I tell if it's a proper z28? Is there a holy grail spec for these cars?

It sounds like you have both UK-related questions and non-UK-related questions. For the latter, why not pop over to one of the US forums which has lots of threads dedicated to your particular year. Massive amounts of accumulated wisdom / experience there.
The early years of the second-generation Camaro (1970 through 1973) are the best IMO. The first generation is very popular (and it, too, is a handsome car), but the early second gen's have more character:

Easiest way to find out if it is indeed a Z28 is find the build sheet for the car. Hopefully your friend will have it. If so you want to look for the RPO Code Z28. While at it, make sure the VIN matches.
You could try getting a carfax report from the States as that might be able to shed some light on what it was first registered as and would be about as close as you could get to know without the build sheet.
Early 2nd Generation Camaros are far better looking IMO that the later 2nd Gens. I think its the only generation where the mid run face lift was actually worse than what they first produced.
