Now in a position to purchase one with cash in the bank at last, a few about but not as many black ones, anyone know of any other than in the normal places?

There is a sole trader near me I have seen who has had a few in recent times, I cant vouch for him or quality of his cars but I know he only deals in Jeep's generally and from the stuff I have seen has had some nice examples, looking like he has 2 black ones in at the mo

Exterior. Panel damage and kerbed wheels. Underneath check for oil leaks around the transfer case area.

Listen for knocking or clunking from the rear shocks as these wear out and are a Bilstein uprated part specifically for this car. Make sure the transfer case fluid has been changed. It's rare as unicorn poop and bloody expensive and NEEDS doing. NV146 TC fluid. Nothing else will do.

Interiors are pretty hardy if a little plasticky and cheap except the seats. They crack on the sides though.

In general they're sturdy machines and that car being a low miles one owner car would lead you to believe it could be a good one that's been looked after. Good luck.

Wanted an SRT and drove a couple. Liked them but had to many minus's for me. Needed to tow with it. Managed to source a supplier of tow bars specific for the SRT in the states only to find it could only tow half the capacity of a normal grand Cherokee. Then the lack of proper 4x4 and lack of a low range box spelt the end. Loved them though. Went with a 5.7 in the end.

I'm debating an SRT8 and wondered what you lot thought a reasonable price for one might be? There seems to be massive variation in what is a tiny market and I don't want to be stuck with a loss leader! I'm looking for long term ownership with a view to LPG (yes, I know the controversy) so I'm looking for low miles, low owners and I'd like a silver one (am I right in assuming red wasn't an option on the WK model in Europe?) Any thoughts welcome!

Between £13-£15 grand seems the right money for these. It's what I was looking at for something nice when I was looking. I would tend to steer clear of anything with LPG. Not only that keep it original when you want to sell it on. I really don't think prices will get any lower now. If anything they will probably rise slightly.

Two points.

5.7 hemis cannot be compared to SRT8s. I've had both and performance ( in spite of the `only` 400 ccs) is miles apart.


One is an offroader with a bit of poke when needed and one is a serious drag racing machine that will genuinely out launch proper performance cars. By that I mean virtually most sports cars on the raod.

Plenty of tuning options for the 5.7 hemi though... You could get best of both.

I looked at srt8's, but went s totally different way and bought a v10 rs6 instead.

As per previous posts I have just bought one, so far I'm not disappointed, yes it's very juicy, but lpg is expensive to fit, you have to consider how long you will own the car to make it pay, and by that time it could have damaged the engine and you get a bigger bill, not many come up with lpg fitted for sale and there is the risk that it will be a bad egg!
I only use mine as a toy, used it to go to work for the first few days but couldn't afford to all the time, not sure how long I'll keep it as I go through cars very quickly, but it's very addictive, launches off the line better than anything I have owned (including an RS3), handles very well for a big lump, gearbox very smooth and surprising quick, very comfy seats I could go on, go test drive one, that's what I did and went from there!

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I'm familiar with the 5.7 and love driving that so will see if I can find a SRT8 nearer to me to try out. I'm in no rush though, I don't go through cars too quickly and just want something that will stick around to replace the diesel I currently don't like driving smile

For me I needed something that could tow rather than be quick. The 5.7 suits me well. To be honest though. I tried a couple of SRT's and I have to say it didn't set my world alight. Yes its fast. But I wasn't in awe.

Cheeky plug but I have a couple of Bwoody uprated sway bar links going cheap for an SRT8 on fleabay. Probably go for a quid. So be it.
