I'd suggest checking your paperwork as the T&C's usually have an out for the dealer. That's if anyone ever received any paperwork!
Jeep (Fiat) contract hire (- like most CH companies) don't take customer initial rental payment until after delivery (by DD) so any monies paid to that point are to the dealer not the finance house, your agreement with them wouldn't normally start until agreement is signed

One guy ordered his car and paid a deposit in 7 minutes on Sunday, so I'm going to say there isn't any paperwork.

That puts the dealer in a very difficult position. They can't rely on T's & C's that weren't made known at the time of ordering.

Spoke to the MD today and he said he was ringing around all of the cancelled orders and implied that there still may be more on the horizon, as he is working thought them personally. He reckons the allocation was sold early doors and the sales team 'presumed' they would be able to have other stock vehicles at the same price, however Jeep said no. He said that 'we' will be offered any future deals before they go to the public on the next order.

Just had a call from the MD, who explained the situation and was very apologetic, basically they had the 20 cars which is where the £1m on the ad came from, sold those quickly and received more enquiries and the sale managers made a call to sell more on the assumption they could secure more cars fromJeep. The last few days they have been negotiating with jeep to try and secure them but unfortunately it couldn't be done, hence the delay in finance papers being issued.

Shame overall for all concerned, but time to move on now.
We received the cancellation notice today as well.

With regard to your conversation with the MD, Fraser.

I phoned and spoke with a person on Sunday to ask a few question and the person who answered (who was very helpful) was called Fraser.

Might be a coincidence with the name, but it might have been the MD picking up the phone. The "Fraser" I spoke with was very happy to discuss and promote the deal.

From your post, it sounded like the MD was blaming over enthusiastic sales people for taking more orders over the weekend than they had confirmed cars. Is that a fair reflection of the conversation?

Because if that is the case, the MD himself couldn't have been working on the weekend himself taking calls, as he would have known all about it. So, it must be a coincidence...
Spoke with Fraser myself today.

He was working over the weekend in question, and knew the original allocation of 20 cars had been sold. It was his decision to take a punt and sell the extra cars. It doesn't particular matter, but it wasn't the decision of an over enthusiastic sales manager.

The issue wasn't with the availability of the cars - the issue was Jeep didn't want to sell extra cars at the lower price. Hence why all of the orders on Sunday and Monday have fallen through.

Does seem strange that Jeep only wanted to shift 20 cars at that price. You wouldn't think it was worth it for them, either get loads out there or just not bother. Someone mentioned 'Ascot' cars. Be interesting to see how many 'delivery' miles the cars that do go out have on them.

Bloody good work to those that have got one though..... Now to find something else to buy!

I work in a sales job and sometimes you can do this sort of thing and present your boss, principal, factory or whoever, with a fait accompli - but you can't be completely ridiculous about it. This offer was for cars at half price - that's never going to fly. What on earth were they thinking?

On most (all?) cars the odometer can be reset as long as it doesn't exceed a certain mileage.

The Ascot story fits perfectly - up to the point where Mangoletsi assumed they could get more cars.

I'd be more inclined to suggest that there were 20 overage cars that they wanted to get shot of. The dealer thought they could get hold of more vehicles, but Chrysler only had 20 and wouldn't throw the same stupid amount of support behind cars they didn't want/need to get shot of.

Who knows?

Off topic-ish - is it true MB UK has a lot of cars to shift before quarter end? You could be a hero with a blow-out deal on a GLC or even a GLE. smile

Well they want to beat BMW and there are some cars in stock so... Short answer is there will be some deals around and we've agreed to do another lump of cars this month. I doubt the GLC will be supported too heavily as there aren't a huge amount in stock.

I think our finance guys were looking at support yesterday and working figures out today, so probably Monday the matrix will be updated. I'm in the office in the afternoon so will find out what the offers are.

If anyone has signed finance paperwork and paid a deposit I'd say they've entered in to a contract. In which case Mangos have a case to be answered in law. Paying a deposit completes the contract of sale, that's why dealers insist on deposits so they have security on any deal.

It's alright for the dealers to try and worm their way out of a deal, however they'll be very quick to say no if the customer wanted to cancel a legally binding contract.

I bet none of these cars are ever delivered. Let's see!

My deposit went in on Sunday.

When I spoke to Fraser he said my deposit would be back with me by Friday? Looks like he's got an hour...

As an aside, my contact (Fernando) at mangoletsi has completely ignored my emails despite calling me and emailing me with constant updates before the cancellation email...

Getting my deposit back was my biggest concern in this whole fiasco.

However the money went back in to my account yesterday.
