Hi , got a jeep Cherokee rag top in recently with a 4lt petrol /lpg engine that had a blown radiator on the motorway and was driven till it sized . Got a similar aged Cherokee jeep auto engine which fitted no problem except when started it run great except it will not rev above 1500 rpm before it backfires and misses , down pipe even glows red , have tried to manually advance the distributor but it's no help. Fault code says it loses crank signal , tried new sensor but no difference . Tried moving sensor , double checked that the flywheel was fitted correctly but there is only one position the flywheel can go , also it's just the same on lpg so have dismissed fuel problems , has anyone come across this ?

Cherokee was hard top only, sure you do not have a Wrangler? Perhaps your flywheel is 180 degrees out?

Your right it's a Jeep Wrangler Sahara , the original engine code was 705mx23 , the replacement engine code is 701mx07 , is it possible the camshaft profiles could be different .
