Good luck for Sunday RR, looking at that picture your vette should go down very well!

good grief what a crap selection of completely uninteresting cars !
Thank you, need luck and two better still three bidders,

Charles the auction guy dealing with it locked the car up,

Said that his details on on the windscreen and a proper buyer won't be shy to get hold of him

to unlock it to have a proper look round it,

Got free tickets so went up to the show today last minute ,

I must admit it was nerve racking watching people getting in and out of these old cars ,all i could hear all day

was doors ,bonnets and boot lids being slammed,

When you think about it the C2 bonnet has been opened two or three times over the last few months if that compared to

being opened and slammed shut hundreds of times in the course of the four days it's been at the auction

May leave the bonnet open when i go up on Sunday.

Not good for a modern car let alone one that is almost sixty years old, Probably was a good idea to keep it locked

If someone brakes the bonnet catch or anything else they are hardly going to go running to the auction

offering to pay for it ,more likely to hide it under the seat or worse still in their pocket if small enough, whistle

That's what you could get putting your car to the mercy of the public, yikes

Parents one was same colourway as this
When I was a nipper, the next door neighbour had one in this black/red colour scheme.

He sold it to a friend of his who lived in the next road, so I can still remember it well into the late 70's as I used to walk past it most days on way to school, and so slowly watched it deteriorate over a 15 year period until it finally disappeared to the scrappy around 1979/80.

Cheers, bringing it back Monday if it doesn't sell ,forecast heavy rain same as when we took it there,

Took three hours of recleaning on our arrival at the auction not being helped by a very damp wet car ,

Frustrating as it was spotless when we left home

The polish wouldn't dry and just as you thought you were winning water would run out of the cracks and crevices

and leave it smeary not doing my ocd any good., banghead

A week to go to Wheels Day.......who' else is going?

Its at a new location, so not sure if I'll go.

I suspect as a result of it being so far away, Billy won't be having his usual Wheels Day open day either.

Will be there ,if raining heavy might still go but in the daily,

Always apprehensive when a new venue remembering the horror stories of Dunsfold

Shame felt at home at Rushmoor but was a pain if heavy rain before and during the show.

Yes I can imagine!
Personally I couldn’t do it, my cars have always been my babies once I’d completed them, use them absolutely but the thought of so knob poking around with them
When I’m not around would just be horrible!

I’m far to old school for this trend, Pebble Beach and Monterey etc I get , crème de la crème and all that but for me car auctions are Dodgy Fords and Fait 128’s , or where people unload there crap!
Lol
Any wish you well and all this is worth while thumbup

Yes, I'm sure the Dunsfold debacle will be in their minds, but you can understand wanting to find a better venue in terms of the ground conditions, which given the time of year being held, is always going to be a problem at Rushmoor, even if Easter is later in April and its been a warm spring the week before.....ground is still too wet after winter.
It is a shame though, as Rushmoor has been its home for so many years....plus for 'us lot', the NAMCO party on same day just around the corner always added to the occasion.

Newbury showground will be better journey for you though, straight up the A34 thumbup

Don't think i will be doing this again anytime soon, too nerve racking and expensive and that's before they take their commission,

The auction caught me with their closing deadline just at the time when what with the weather and the lack of quality of the buyers (that's being kind)

I'd had enough ,a few days later after i'd thought it through i wouldn't have done it ,just walked away from it for a few weeks and waited til May or June

which is what i will do if unsuccessful at the auction,

Sold the Falcon ,Gallardo at Silverstone's and Historic auctions and the 430 on Collecting Cars on-line auction with no bother so i think it's just my

stake of mind at the moment. rolleyes

Hope i works out for you and if it doesnt the car comes back to you in the same condition

We put a 56 Dodge Sierra D500 station wagon into Historics at Brooklands about 12 years ago, rare car, one of only 18 built with the D500 Hemi option. I went up on the Saturday sale day thinking i could help by telling people about it, every time i turned my back someone was sat in it or trying to open the bonnet, people using the hood as coffee table, piling their bags on it while they looked at it. Properly p1ssed me off the total lack of respect for someone elses car people showed. The car did sell on the day so we didnt have to have it back. I regularly get auction houses asking me to sell through them but i just cant bring myself to do it now the value of the cars and the cost of repairs.

I just sold my 59 Caddy Coupe to a French guy via a Car And Classic ad, ive got three classified ads on Ebay and not had a sniff on anything in a month

Glad it's not just me then being a bit of a girl,

I notice the 59 had gone ,thought it would as such a lovely car,

Will be hard if not impossible to replace,

That made me chuckle - came within a whisker of buying a FIAT 500 Abarth at the NEC today which wasn't on the radar yesterday, but was pipped to the post by someone else!

I spent more time in the auction area over the last two days than in the previous ten years and was surprised how many of the cars I actually liked the look of. While I was busy drooling over the '59 Alfa my mate was on the phone to his Mrs talking about the possibility of building another garage to put the S3 Jag XJ6 he wanted to bid on... dangerous places these car shows hehe

I've never bought a car at auction before and have always been a bit wary of doing so but would probably consider it in the future, so long as the owner is prepared to let me have a proper look at it inside and out.

Best of luck for tomorrow with the C2 rr wink

I've now got a different mind set than i had a few weeks ago,

Won't be to disappointed to bring her home tomorrow ,the waste of time and energy not to mention money that's gone into this weekend

will grate more than not selling the car,.

You know i have never had so many compliments on the colour of a car before ,everyone i spoke to mentioned the colour,

even got asked by quite a few is it original or had a colour change, as they had never seen a green Vette before .

i've had green cars before and got the odd compliment but nothing like this one,

I think people are so used to seeing them in red, black or yellow that when they see something a little different that actually suits

the car they feel compelled to say something,

Met some really nice people as well ,not all wanted to buy the car as they admitted they can't afford it but just nice to chat about cars.

Chatting to a lovely normal every day couple and the guy mentioned he had a 69 Charger 440 but the more we spoke the more cars

he was telling me he had ,not in a boasting way ,probably my fault as i was dragging them out of him,

Try a 69 Shelby Mustang ,yes a real one not the best one i know but it is a pukka Shelby, another Shelby but convertible 2010,

a 65 Falcon dressed as a race car retro -mod with a 650bhp supercharged lump and a Ferrari California ,

Funny part is he drives a fully electric Merc as a daily ,told me he is just about to lose his shirt on it as he's getting out of it

before the prices drop any lower.

Another guy and his wife who seemed very knowledgeable about Chevy engines confirmed in his opinion that i do have a LT 1 engine

even down to still having it's 4 barrel carburettor still in place and saying i have under priced it ,

I know just saying that doesn't mean nothing really but it helped me just hearing that from someone who appears to know what he is talking about.

Thanks for all your encouragement and to be honest i just want to get the auction out of the way so i can buy a new toy or get the hard top off

and start enjoying her this coming summer as i didn't get much chance to last year. driving

Fingers crossed for you RR. I hope it makes good money. It really deserves to.
What is with people and the general lack of respect for other peoples pride and joy.
I was at Santa Pod a few years back for the American an Italian car day, never again.
Not many of us went but it was a kids and parents day and the funfair was running.
Kids climbing all over guys Lambo's and Ferrari's and the parents just let them get on with it. I stayed with the Hellcat all day.
What has happened to this world we live in.
One very young boy was looking at the car and said my dads car is better than your car as we get 7 people in it.
I replied. So can I. Five adults in the car and two kids in the boot. His dad did laugh smile

I find that at most car shows that the general public can have access to such as the Worthings Sunny Sunday

American & Custom show which is held in a public park on the sea front ,lovely venue on a sunny day but anyone can walk off the promenade

into the park ,kids on bikes ,prams being pushed through gaps between the cars that just not there ,hundreds of kids unattended,

Christchurch key and even Beaulieu hot rod show can be the same with hundreds of paying summer tourists usually with lots of kids visiting the Museum

not even knowing the car show is there,

The parents haven't got the same mind set of us and of the cars we own ,

Most drive normal uncared cars which they have no interest in as long as it gets them from A to B ,

They neither notice or care if their kids climb all over them .

Totally different when the shows are held at private venue's where only the participants can take part,

If the kids are bought up in this environment it is very unlikely they will misbehave around other peoples cars

or property ,if they do it will be only the once by the time their parents get hold of them. nono

Much the same mindset as the supermarket car park mob. Unfortunately its often the females driving the oversized Chelsea tractors, other late model cars, probably company and/or leased, PCP and contract hire or old bangers and don't even have a clue about what they are driving (or care) and will use your car as a door 'stop' for theirs.........when we go shopping at the supermarket I nearly always remain in the car.
Three reasons.
Reason 1 - I can't stand all the friggin' about 'er indoors does finding the best prices.
Reason 2 - 'er indoors can't stand me friggin' about looking at new foods, ingredients and beverages we try as alternatives.
Reason 3 - to make sure no one bangs our car opening a door or shopping trolley on to it.
Doesn't always work though. A good few years ago a woman and her friend parked beside me and the driver getting out noticeably banged her door on mine. No apology, refuted that she had done that. I pointed out the mark on my car (well, company car) in her cars colour. She still argued, denying it happened and walked-off. I just had to give her car a bit of a kicking.........

This situation is ridiculous cars getting bigger and bigger and spaces so small it’s almost impossible to get out!
If I’m a passenger obviously I have to lead with my left leg when trying to get out, if I can’t open the virtually fully I’m stuck!
My new knee just won’t bend enough to squeeze through the gap!!

But I always go into the shop with the wife,
It’s the only way I can limit the crap she buys!
How many times I’ve heard “ I’ve got to go to home bargains “ ffs nobody needs to go to home bargains!!!
hehe

As for damage well my old turd looks well used so I probably wouldn’t notice another ding,
Once we’ve got the next one that’s when the worry will begin!!
However since we’ve seriously turned the wick down and looking at cheaper options maybe I won’t be so paranoid!!

Hey RR what timed your machine up?
Is this auction on You tube?
I admire your nerve, I couldn’t do it
All the travelling, the worry and thought that like Estate Agents getting a nice chunk with every sale
Auction sites are absolutely no different,

But still fingers crossed and hopefully onward to the next purchase!!cloud9

I’m currently offering a couple more of my rifles,
And some of my accessories to try and raise a few more quid,
Not as easy to sell as it was but things are moving and I’m happy to cut to the bone for the time being
If it helps my fund, one last hurrah so to speak!
