Morning all

Bought myself a 1984 chevrolet m1008 cucv truck the other day. Its been raised/repainted etc by the previous owner. on the way home with it I was driving down the motorway when I suddenly lost a whole chunk of power(20mph. At first it recovered that but then lost more and stalled.

I limped as close to the services as I could and called out my breakdown guys who towed me to their base. They fortunatly had a mechanic who used to work for a company who imports these trucks. He first identified that there was a hole in the pipe leading from the fuel tank to the filter and a hole in the top of the rubber hand button on the filter. So we replaced that but then a futher problem developed. It wouldnt turn over. Plenty of power in the battery but wouldnt turn over and kept earthing out(sparking). He thought that something was tight in the engine. So we towed it to see if it'd start. It did start and sounded rough as heck, then within 10 yards did the loss of power thing again and stalled.

Whilst having the loss of power it feels like you're being dragged backwards.

Currently its sat at a garage waiting for then to check it over, but from what they've said does that sound the issue?

its details are as follows: chevy m1008 1984. about 110k on the clock. 6.2L diesel. 4 speed manual gearbox.

Does it sound like the engine or could it be something else simple? And if it is the engine and its rebuild territory how much am I looking at?

cheers

Rhys

The engine is the same as used in the Hummer H1. Marltrax in Norfolk have stacks of parts for them if you go down that route.
