I'm really not going to help here, but I drive an F250 when I'm home.....and it's such a nice place to be.

It maybe an XL model, it's very basic, and I really miss door pockets, but the engine - I mean, 6.4 twin turbo V8 diesel, 650lbs and 350bhp, 3.2tons with a 0-60 of 8.5s, what's not to like really?

Where it excels though is towing. The thing just owns the load. A few weeks ago, towing an excavator, 4 ton load and it was just easy. Lights go green, sink the throttle and watch the turbo gauge nail itself. Dial in a bit of compensation on the brakes and stopping the load is easy.

However, if you went back to the UK, I can think of nothing worse than an F250. It's far too big. There are parking lots in the US where I simply cannot park mine anywhere close to the door, not that I particularly care most of the time. But in the UK, you're just going to go grey using it.

Then you need to question your driving ability. This bks gets trotted out time and again. An F150 is no larger than a Transit, and they seem to manage most places in the UK. I'm on my 4th F series now. Started with an F350 duallie, which, admittedly, was a little restricted in places, but only due to the width of the twin-wheel axle. Then had an F250, followed by an F150 and now an F150 Raptor, which is considerably bigger than a bog-standard model. I use it every day, everywhere and don't have a problem. It's an incredible tool (some say I am as well...) which I choose 90% of the time over anything else I have access to.

Before you want to turn on people with "driving ability", and the vehicle size, might you want to look up a relavent statistic like "turning circle".

If you did, you would see my turning circle is 54'. Your Raptor assuming a supercab and 6.5' bed is 44' and a long wheel base Transit is 44'. And as you well know, in the last few years parking spaces in the UK have gotten a whole lot smaller.

So yes, my comment about parking in the UK stands and of course your little truck is easy to park.

Fortunately, I have a reverse gear, so turning circle isn't that much of an issue. And I have yet to have a problem parking anywhere. Maybe your abilities really aren't that good?

But then, I've only been driving for 40-odd years.

I have an F350 dually/duallie/dooley as a daily driver, yes parking can be a minor irritation if you're lazy & aren't willing to walk a bit further, but I have yet to find anywhere that I can't go, I've even pulled our 33ft 5th wheel around the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland around many of the smallest roads that we have in this country. As Ade said, it has reverse!

If you ever decide to sell, let me know, would you? Always regret getting rid of mine (ironically, to a drag-race team in Somerset; maybe you know Steve Wright of Apple County Customs?)

I can't see me ever selling it mate, what could I possibly replace it with? (other than a nice new 6.7!) I don't know Steve personally, but I know the truck & it's a beauty, there is another dually for sale on the FB American truck page, it's only 2wd though, but has a lot of Banks stuff on it & a body kit, I nearly bought it before I found this one but I'm not a fan of red.

I'm in the US later this month; Chicago & Iowa. Planning to call at a Ford dealership and see if can buy '17 Raptor..
My sister-in-law has lived there for 25 years, so maybe buy through her and get someone like shipmycar.com to bring it over.
Need to work out some figures...

The V6 Ecoboost? I don't believe the V8 is out yet - or even confirmed by Ford as being available?

LPG and insurance was my next consideration. Presumably you need ot tell your insurer about that mod? Do you mind me asking how much you pay to insure it?

I'm 44, full licence 27 years, completely claim free, full NCB so am hoping I could insure one for a reasonable amount.
A shy under £300 wink.

I know it probably won't change anyone's entrenched position on the matter, but.......I just returned from a couple of weeks camping around the Lakes first and then North Norfolk. Took the 2500 Ram full to the gunwales with camping detritus and despite expecting issues never struggled to drive or park it anywhere.

Got nothing but positive comments from all and sundry, kids and grown ups alike love it. It's great sitting in a cafe/restaurant and watching people taking photos lol!

Obviously a bed full of bikes and tents etc is no issue for the 6.7 'Cummins monster' but it returned 25 UK mpg on mainly 60 mph cruising with the local bits in and around the hills and villages. That is roughly what our old Disco 2 used to give us.

We were lucky enough to have this and drive it in the States where it requires no conscious effort. In fact, it was my good lady's school run and daily believe it or not! I don't think i'd use it like that here but to say they are just unsuitable for the UK is ridiculous. The tesco delivery wagon has a bigger footprint ffs.

I get the old "it's a bit big, isn't it?" routine about my F150 from people sometimes too.

Mind you, seeing as I used to build these and have a license to drive them, I'n not really bovvered biggrin
