Absolutely gutted.... made appointment at the weekend to see/buy it (GMT Master II) today at 2, viewing only by appointment Tuesday and Thursdays so didn't even cross my mind to pay a deposit (wasn't asked to, either) - get phone call at 12:00 " Sorry it's sold" furious

Back to the drawing board. frown
10 yr old GMT shouldn't be too difficult to locate though.

You'd have thought so wouldn't you.

Spent a hot hour and a half trawing around Burlington Arcade and surrounding area... Zilch. An hour on the web and find one with right year, phone them up... "Sorry Sir, literally half an hour ago we had a call and someone's put a deposit on it".

Honestly, I think I must have run over a black cat or something on the way to work this morning rolleyes
Give Watchfinder or Dom H a call?

Nice. Good story behind the watch as well. Of course the really rare ones are the ones that have been earned by people who've managed to get their take-off/landing ratio slightly out of sync... wink

Drunken purchase, but I lover my Sinn. 144 Ti GMT incoming, crystal backed. smile

Stock pics.

Very nice. Having major Sinn withdrawal symptoms - my 856 has been in for a service for the past couple of months, and it doesn't come back until September. frown

Alright, strictly speaking I already own this and I've already worn it, BUT, this has been unworn for the whole of 2012 since it broke in November last year. I finally got around to sending it back to Sinn for an overhaul and found out today that it is ready and coming back to me this week. It'll even be turning up in a DHL box as well. Can't wait to have it back on my wrist - I've REALLY missed it bounce

Very chuffed, less chuffed about the fact that Sinn charge EUR55 to fill the case with argon, a key part of the waterproofing process. 55 European notes? For less than a spoonful of Argon? Are they having a laugh?

It's 5 Euro for the argon and 50 Euro to diagnose if you need it. wink
A proper Schrodinger's cat of a diagnosis too.

"So, we just need to open zee case to see if zee Argon needs replacing"

[opens case] argon immediately all falls out

"Ah. Zat'll be 55 Euros added to Mr Forrest's bill, Brunhilde"

I'd have been inclined to take my chances with regular air, tbh.

"Ja, Herr Forrest. Ve hawe definitely put argon in your vatch. Habsolutely. Ja, it's colourless. Ja, it's odourless. But ve assure you it is there. See? There is a line item on your inwoice to prowe it."
"OK, well if you don't mind I'll just open the case to be sure, OK?"

"Yes of course Mr Forrest, no problem"

Opens case.

Yes, excellent news - I had heard that Sinn are or have moved to using the less exotic Nitrogen; which doesn't sound as glamourous but does the same job; this is unconfirmed but some reading of their website reveals a few subtle changes in the relevent sections.
I'd like to think they do still re-do Ar into Ar watches when serviced though - so would assume yours is Ar.
Why they charge £40 for it is probably down to the labour involved more than the gas price, but it does seem a bit OTT. Mind you, in other respects I think their servicing costs are still quite reasonable.

Anyway up, glad it's on its way back Stuart - it's a very cool watch indeed.
According to the estimate, my service costs are as follows:

1. Complete maintenance overhaul of the watch. Disassemble movement, clean, grease, test and adjust. replace crown and crown tube, new dehumidifying capsule and all seals, testing. 130 EUR

2. Gasket overhaul 44 EUR
3. Argon (and it specifically says Argon, not nitrogen) 55 EUR

Shipping and tax bring it to 279 EUR. So not cheap, but then I've had it for four years and I'm the third owner. I must admit that this is the first watch I've had properly serviced, so beyond what you read about Rolex service costs, how does this compare to anything you've needed doing Andy?

Arrived back today. I've really missed it tbh - watching the UPS updates of where it was as it came over from Frankfurt was like waiting for a new watch.
