Must admit it comfy and save the stainless bracelet from getting scuffed. Such a nice easy watch to ware. Got a black luminox carbon on a black NATO PVD for work and it looks so so cool. Just need to decide on a classy dress watch. Unsure on Seamaster Aqua Terra white blue dials chronograph or DeVille black face chronograph. Or hold out for a Panerai but thats double my budget lol

I have a black Traser on a black Nato with black hardware. Looks great!

As for the dress watch, is this unrelated to Natos? Not sure a Panerai is a dress watch! I knew those Italians were stylish but did they really wear suits with a dress watch to dive and plant bombs under Allied ships? silly

hmmm, I don't do it like thatsmile

much easier just to twist the strap around, put the pins in and twist it around again.
Having had them issued for years that method is how soldiers do it, anything involving removing the pins is just too complex for grunts..... hehe
Removing the pins would risk damaging the lugs each time. Plus it takes longer to change them. Plus Natos were designed for watches with fixed pins.
It's a good point. Suppose I haven't had to change a NATO for a NATO yet, only gone from normal strap to NATO.

Ah, fair enough. biggrin

I love the fact that I can change a Nato if I just fancy a different look (or need to wash a dirty one).

I'm now buying watches to match NATOs not NATOs to match watches boxedin

Yeah mate it un related to NATOS. I thought a clean face Panerai on leather would look good as a dress watch. Am away to look at DeVilles tomorrow.

I know what you mean but they're divers watches.

As for De Villes, enjoy your browsing.

Hoofy can you think of anything else dress watch style that would fit the bill?

IWC Portofino. (Was going to suggest that but it sounded like you'd had your mind set on an Omega.) What about a used pre-owned Rolex Oyster of some sort? Rolex Explorer 1? Air King? Omega Speedmaster? (It is quite dressy after all; could go for a triple date to be different or a Reduced.) Longines chronograph of some sort (or non-chrono)?

At the risk of being snubbed by everyone:

That's right. The double Nato.

Is that for real?
If so what's the advantage?

Yes. Advantage? You know when you suddenly have a need for a small length of rope? Just take off one strap and there you go. Or when you find a watch with a matching lug width, head only? You'll be glad you had your Double Nato with you.

Are Natos only available in one length "fits all"? I like my watches loose, and the standard length strap leaves the buckle half way around my wrist.

Aren't you supposed to fold it back under the rings to allow for resizing the strap at any time?

That's what I do with mine (got a blue faced Seiko Chronograph on a blue strap - Looks rather smart, but not watch-porn enough to post here smile ).

Um. You can do what you want with it. I don't even bother tucking the end in these days.

Oh, I've started converting some of my diver's watches from Natos to rubber. Why? By luck, I happened to be wearing my Colt on a new rubber strap to test it under warm/training conditions ie when I sweat like a maniac. I had a client with a "learning disability" who sneezed over my watch. Had I been wearing a Nato, I wouldn't have been able to do much. As it was, I just dumped my arm under a running tap for 3 hours.

Is it practical to have fixed bars fitted? Has anyone had this done to a non-military watch?

If so, by whom and for how much, please?

Can't see the benefit beyond stronger bars between the lugs.
