That is stunning. Any details?
It's a Pilot/Namiki MYU 701 (google it and you'll be taken to a HK sellers page - stuttler? - for more detail on the range). Made for a few years in the early seventies, a bit pricey now imo, but there is a very limited NOS stock. I think Pilot did a commemoration version as a LE a couple of years ago, called the M90 or M60 off the top of my head, quite close to the original but with a stepped barrel that goes a bit against the MYU 701s sleek look imo.

Nice writers, probably not the best but certainly good enough. The thing that sometimes gets overlooked on these is the asymmetric design, allowing a long pen when the cap is posted and a short pen for putting into the pocket.

There were a few other integrated nib pens, Parker did a short-lived Ti version and a cheaper normal version, but neither quite carried it off like the MYU.

A very unglamorous Pelikan brown for me...

I like Waterman for blue ink.
Parker Quink blue-black for me.

Sorry, got carried away with big pens!

Back on topic:
In addition to the M600, Pelikan also offer the M605 (silver not gold). They do it in rollerball I think... but FP is the way to go! smile

Have you written with the NeroUno? Even though I used to like my (sadly lost) Rotring 600, I couldn't get to grips with the shape of those when I tried one. Preferred the Expressione myself, but world would be a boring place if everyone liked the same things.

Oh, and if you do join the FP crowd, make sure you finish the job by choosing a decent ink! smile
I've looked for the 605 (high and low) but Pelikan no longer seem to make them so I think I'm settled on the M805 FP in striped blue for around £230 delivered. I'll then find a decent ballpoint as a jotting/notes pen. The Sailor Sapporo would fit the bill nicely....or another decent Cross. I really liked my last one but it's rather battered and bruised (it's served me well for 10 years though).

Suddenly I've just gone from buying one to buying two pens.

If you like Cross pens then have a look at the Townsend fountain pen. It is pretty good value for what it is, has a lifetime warranty and is something else entirely to write with, I love mine.

If you want to try a cheap but quality pountain pen to see if you can live with one, try the TWSBI 'demonstrators' - superb quality. I have 3 on the go at the moment - different colours - matching with same colour ink :-)

by the way b*llox too young - FP's are cool.
Definitely agree with trying a TWBSI demonstrator (clear so you can see all the workings) - give one a whirl you may be pleasantly surprised

Also as mentioned earlier the Pilot Vanishing Points are a very nice pen to write with and very practical for day to day use.

For slightly bigger the Pelikan M600 is a ncie size, M800 and M1000 are really big pens and good if you have large hands. If also consider a Parker Duofold. They are big but nice.

That's what you think! laugh

FPs can be addictive as watches as soon as you "get" them.

Andy: Nowt wrong with brown... if it weren't for the fact that a few people I know beat me to Waterman Havana Brown I'd have something in that tonal range in use. Looks stellar, especially on cream paper.

Ink wise, I've pretty much stuck with MB Racing Green since I first used it - just hoping someone manages a decent clone before I run out.

I bought a Townsend on Friday. A real step up from my basic Waterman with Stainless nib.

It's a pleasure to write with. Smooth and well balanced.

Purchase made. I went for this (M600).

I tried the 800 but it was just too big and a bit uncomfortable. The 600 sat perfectly. I tried their standard medium nib but it seemed a bit thick so I've gone fine. Got the Pelikan 2 pen leather holder too for half price.

Having thought about it a £100 pen for jotting / scribbling seems daft but i may in time buy the rollerball to make a pair if i'm feeling particularly flush one day.

I've been opened up to a whole new world though and I could easily have spent thousands today!!

I personally have MontBlanc and Cross Fountain Pens, that I use all the time, but the Pen I own and really love is my Rotring as well as the Pencil too!!

Not sure if you can buy them any more, but ebay seem to have some options.

From a weight and balance point of view, the Rotring is hard to beat, its also very engineering tech if you know what I mean!!

Craig - well done, Sir! Very much doubt you'll regret that purchase... the blue looks great.

Nigel - sadly no, I don't think you can still get the Rotring 600. Was looking for one last year to replace the one I lost, but to no avail. Similarly their Tikky Double Push pencils are no more...

Thanks for the feedback, shame they are not made any more, means I will have to look after mine even more now.

I also have the set of three Tikky Pencils too, sounds to me like I might have to take better care off all of them!!

You can still get Tikkys (just not the Double Push - which were great if you liked to carry one around with you) but I think they may have been discontinued following the sale of Rotring. As a precaution I lobbed 3 boxes in the stationery cupboard last year so should be set for a while! wink

Good choice, they look great in blue. Mine came with a fine nib which I found was too thin. i emailed Pelikan and they just sent me a medium nib FOC. Excellent service.

But, (sorry to start a sentence with but), I find that still by far the nicest fountain pen I have to write with is my Schaeffer bought for £20 when I was 14. It did all my O levels, all my A levels, my degrees and my diploma. It has written many many miles of words and has the smoothest nib ever which is now perfectly worn to suit my style. Always used with Schaeffer blue black cartridges. The barrel looks a bit worn now and over the last 6 years I have used my Pelikan most of the time and it will soon be as smooth as the ancient one although it won't have written as much smile
