My Superocean Chrono was sent to Breitling for service and repair via Watches of Switzerland.
I asked for full refurb, repair (it wasn't holding charge nor winding properly) and new pushers - basically make it new again....
The bill is £795 and so far it's been gone some 8 weeks.
That seems very expensive, pushers aren't that expensive. A full overhaul at £372 will see your watch dismantled completely, cleaned, re-assembled and re-finished like new, your quote is over double the overhaul price, I'd be expecting a new crystal, new pushers and a new crown for that price.

I would personally always send it direct to Breitling and never via a dealer unless it's a warranty job, I've heard of dealers adding a huge whack on top of the price from Breitling.

Oh, and, if you've ever wondered what they do in a service.....................

Automatic overhaul - http://www.breitling.com/service/index1.php?utm_so...

Quartz overhaul - http://www.breitling.com/service/index2.php?utm_so...

Generally they are very well built and very saleable second hand. I picked up my 6 month old Skyland last week for 50% off its RRP, but they aren't generally that cheap!

RRP -40% is the general price for a 2nd hand Breitling.

Stef
The -40% is presumably what you think you ought to pay a dealer? If I got more than 50% of current retail for any of mine (selling privately), I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven........

I've bought and sold plenty of Breitling's which have been about 40% below retail, trade and private.

The RRP of the Skyland before it was discontinued was £3,700 most sell for just over £2,000 so somewhere around 40% I got mine cheaper as the seller was after a quick sale to fund something else. I bought a Navitimer World for £4,100 and sold it for £2,600 and likewise most others I see.

If there are any kicking around below 50% RRP then they are bargains!

Not a big fan of any of the Windrider series except the lovely brushed finish Blackbird.
My 2003 Blackbird is currently at Breitling in Tunbridge wells having a "factory fresh" overhaul. Cost is £360ish as per PDF link in this thread and I was told it would take up to 8 weeks.........only 4 more to go and I get to visit the place again (well worth it) and put it back on my wrist biggrin

Thoughts on this, watch experts?

Never seen anything like it for its simplicity.

OK, well you are more than welcome to have my Chronomat Evo for 50% of current RRP, (which is £3,800). I won't make £1,900 on that in a month of Sundays.

I've certainly never seen a Breitling like that before.

Do you know anything of its provenance? Was it owned by a member of your family?

You may be better off starting a new thread about it, I'd certainly be interested to know more.

I have exactly this watch but on a steel strap. I have worn it more or less every day for six years and it has been faultless. I really like the fact the dial is complicated with loads of stuff on it and even use the circular slide rule fairly often.

I don't really like many others in the Breitling range, excepting the heritage models and some of the ladies ones (for ladies)

I have the stainless steel Navi bracelet too, but prefer it on the black leather.

I used to have a silver dial one too but the classic black dial with silver/white sundials looks best.

Servicing prices are on a downloadable PDF from here http://www.breitling.com/en/maintenance/retailers-...

I've owned quite a few Breitlings in the past and currently have a Navitimer Olympus and a Skyland Avenger. Not a big fan of any of the Windrider series except the lovely brushed finish Blackbird.

My current two.................

If you buy in Singapore or Malaysia you will get 40% off of retail on a brand new model.

Hmm.. too late now - I found the email of what it's having:

Complete Service including new set of hands: £385
New Crown: £40
New Pushers (optional): £125
Extensive Refurbishment of case and bracelet (optional): £195

Total: £745 (not the £795 I said before)

I went for the optional bits because I wanted it to be absolutely new when I got it back. I've worn it everyday for the last 6 years more or less.

Not bad I think.
I haven't done it yet but my newly acquired PP's services will, I'm guessing, cost multiples of that and take 3-6 months I've heard.

I love them...

I bought a Breitling COLT GMT as my first decent watch. I was inexperienced and paid full RRP from Watches of Switzerland in Edinburgh. It was automatic and used to loose minutes everyday so in the end I took it back to WoS in Manchester. They took it back at full RRP and allowed me take away a new Breitling Avenger Seawolf Chrono for around 16% off RRP

I love it and wear it everyday (offshore, diving on holiday, everything) but it still looks like new. The attention to detail is what I like, down to the B on the crown finishing in the right place.

I was convinced I wanted nothing other than a Navitimer World, but that is pretty gorgeous.

Each to their own regarding the styling, but I think they only look too big on a small wrist.

I grew up with my Dad wearing a 1960-something Navitimer, so they're in my blood to a degree. Don't like them all, but I'd hock a kidney for a Chronomat B01.

I'm really not a fan and class them as 'old manny' watches. frown

I'll stick to Rolex thanks.
