I'm a full time lurker on here but decided to see if you's have any suggestions for me. I'm not a collector I just want a nice watch to wear daily and I really like a watch with a brown strap. This is the main contender at the minute... But at £7500, it's really pushing the amount that I'd want to spend, so any other suggestions would be welcome.

I too went thorugh a similar "wanted: white face, brown strap" thing a while back. I ended up with a Tag Monza, exactly the same as below: I love it; the clarity of the face makes it really easy to wear. Less than half the price of your IWC, lovely as it is!

Brown leather, you say? I'd check out the Bremont ALT1-C (brown strap, cream dial). I handled one at a shop in the Burlington Arcade a couple of weeks ago; beautifully constructed, and should be well within budget if you've been looking up to £7.5K (RRP just under £4K). http://ow.ly/bLkvPThis is next on my list too!

Oh I'm really liking this too! The ALT1-Z also looks great. Unfortunately the doesn't seem to be any Bremont dealers over here in Northern Ireland.

Buy a watch based on what colour strap it comes on? What fresh madness is this?? There are a myriad strap makers out there.

This, madness to spend thousands on something because of the colour of the replaceable bit. but, the nicest everyday all rounder on a brown strap is clearly the JLC below:

To be honest the split-second chronograph function would be the thing that sets this watch apart rather than the strap; you can put most sorts of straps on most sorts of watches. Vintage with bespoke rally strap for example?

Here's mine, although perhaps bit plain for you, also discontinued now by Omega...

Panerai 177 is a current favourite of mine. Next on the hit list me thinks.

Andy Tims. Will you stop posting pictures of that Dornbluth.
I've just come to my senses and sold a bunch of stuff to get my collection down into the low tens. That watch is going to seriously test my self control.

Defo choose the watch first and strap second! Stowa's chrono offerings look great on their dark brown croc option, they don't look to bad on the other brown options either.

The Carrera, Monza and Bedetti do it for me My little Seiko 5 looks much better on a tan leather strap than it ever did on its bracelet.

Omega Speedmaster from about 1988. Not usually a fan of bi-metal but I think the gold on this complements the brown strap nicely.

Bremont was the one for me. Didn't want to spend that much, but once on the wrist there was no way back !
