There appears to be a certain dislike for Breitling watched on here and on other watch forums. I don't know much about watches to be honest. Why are they viewed in this was unlike other manufacturers?

Overly shiny, I guess. Have to go for something older like a Top Time or a Colt to avoid the rapper vibe.

I've never liked breitling because of the amount of fakes that are about but not even sedate fake, they're £30k breitlings on young kids!! They are overly flash and some of the ranges are just terrible!!
I do however have a Superocean Heritage, no chrono, just plain black face with black leather strap - didn't cost the earth either.

Not my cup of tea either.
I've never handled one so can't speak of their quality, but as a brand the watches leave me unmoved. I quite like the Superocean, but not enough to do anything about it.

Saying you don't like Breitlings is a bit like saying you don't like Fords, ridicules and shallow, open your eyes.

I'd say Breitling are above Ford and other "family" brands. Here's mine, btw. Not very bling.

IIRC I seem to remember some guys on here sneering at them because they didn't make their own movements?

A lot of them are rather brash, but some are less so and I'm a big fan of the Cosmonaute. I've yet to see a Rolex I really like and they have a nasty image (again mostly related to fakes and the loadsamoney brashness of the eighties), but I'm sure they make nice watches, if they appeal to you. I tend to think of Breitling in the same way, with the bonus of an air display team M.

Personally I'm a proper Breitling fanboy. Okay, few of their watches have "in house" movements but a growing number do and the rest use properly modified ETA ones that are superior to standard ETA ones in fit, finish and performance. A few are properly "Blingy" and you can keep those, but others are tasteful and restrained and really rather pleasant on the eye. I give you the SuperOcean range and the Heritage version is lovely.

Breitlings are very well made and very functional watches which can absorb 'heavy' wear and ubiquitous use. If Rolexes are porsches, Breitlings are BMWs.

I've been climbing, dragged it across surfaces and heard others suck in breath sharply. Thing is, prior to my ownership, someone had been involved in some kind of hard collision so the bezel was problematic hence I removed it to avoid it falling off when out and about. I've since put it back on but use a Suunto screen guard to hold it in place. It looks quite rugged now.

I've got a navitimer with brown leather strap, its not a massive watch and is pretty understated, i love it and wear it every day, its about 4 years old now and still looks new.
