This thread has me browsing Creation Watches for an SKX007 or 009. Is there much to gain by spending a few extra quid on a Japan made one or not?
I'm not convinced the K models without 'made in Japan' on the face aren't made in the same factory; I think it's defined by which market they're aimed at. The language on the day wheel is different, for instance.Anyway, I saved £10 by buying a K model SNZH53 and I'd always buy the cheaper one in future; although, interestingly, the blue face is slightly darker on my K model than the pics I've seen of the J model. Not likely to be so relevant on a black face.

My '85er - first analogue quartz chrono, 7A28 movement, arguably one of the best standard quartz chrono movements too.
I'm still after one of these; should anyone ever come across one on their travels tobinen said:

If you ever want to sell it, they go for (not much) more.If you're keeping it for yourself, I wouldn't bother. I bought one to see if it was better than my "non-Japan" one, seemed exactly the same, bar the day wheel languages.
I went into a Seiko dealership here in the Philippines yesterday. The SKX models across the range are about 7k peso each , give or take, which is just less than a hundred quid ( I'm after an orange face SKX). I noticed all the models I looked at don't have any " made in japan" written at the bottom of the face, and upon asking the sales girl she told me the movements were Japanese. I'm not taking her word for granted though, so is there anywhere in the instruction manual or guarantee which will verify this, or maybe something in the serial number?.
I'm not a purist anyway, so the movement doesn't worry me too much, but I am looking for a replacement for my now very tired SKX007 and the orange face version is doing for me.

I believe all the mechanisms are the same whether the face says 'made in Japan' or not.I'm not a purist anyway, so the movement doesn't worry me too much, but I am looking for a replacement for my now very tired SKX007 and the orange face version is doing for me.

I have an asian made Seiko 5 .. doesnt say 'made in Japan' - but very obviously has the 7S-36 movement - which is the same as the 'made in Japan' ones ( visible thro' caseback)
I really doubt there is any real difference whatsoever between the 2...

It started years ago with people just saying as it was a Seiko it would be nice to see made in Japan on the watch, then they started saying that they sought out the Japanese marked models and that when people started thinking they might be worth more.
The watches are of the same quality and it's just a tiny bit of ink on the dial that makes a difference.
I'm looking to retire my current "holiday" watch that accompanies me to warmer climes. I'm no deep-sea diver, just a bit of snorkelling and swimming pool thats all, so I've been looking at the Seiko 007/009 models and wondered what you chaps might advise? I also noted on Creation Watches that they can now be had with the NATO straps, rather than the rubber dive ones and also wondered if they would be favourable. I'm used to wearing either a steel bracelet or leather strap on my every day watches, but have put a little cheapy on a NATO to get an idea of it, but just can't decide.
Opinions appreciated! Thanks!

I believe Creation just put their own alternative straps on, so it might be worth ordering on the rubber and getting a NATO elsewhere - they're pretty cheap; I bet the rubber wouldn't be so cheap if you wanted to buy it separately. If you go for the 009 J model then it's £6 cheaper on rubber than NATO anyway.

Many thanks for this. What is the fundamental difference between a 007 and 009? Both appeal, but to the layman, I don't see much difference, given what I want it for.MrB. said:

Only the dial colour and bezel insert, the 007 is all black and the 009 has a blue dial with a blue/red insert. They're essentially the same watch bar the colours Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
