Seiko will still service it, but it will probably have to go back to Japan. A friend of mine's dad dug a 30 year Seiko out of a drawer where it had sat for a decade, sent it to Seiko and a few weeks later it was back working like brand new.
I wonder how much that cost. Seiko seem to charge roughly what I paid for my 5 for a service. I'm not sure who was first to post a picture of the Seiko 60s/70s style panda chrono, but it inspired me to get one too. Just don't keep it on the OE strap (shiny black croc-print leather? Bizarre choice).
Thing is, I'm now torn between the two straps I ordered for it:
Currently on the NATO because my g/f thinks seeing arm hairs through the holes on the rally strap is odd. And I've never had a NATO before so it has novelty value. But both suit it beautifully.

I swapped mine for a NATO and love it. The perfect summer watch.
Somewhat frustrating that Seiko reissue versions of their most on trend 70s style chronographs as quartz rather than as higher end autos. The bit of me that does my day job want me to yell at their brand team.
I consulted to seiko many years ago And they are quintessential product guys - it's all about features and engineering, and they are bloody terrible at branding, despite their aim to move upmarket. It's part of the charm I suppose, especially as the Swiss have gone so far the other way.

You can get some very nice, retro looking auto chronographs....Not particularly cheap thoughSomewhat frustrating that Seiko reissue versions of their most on trend 70s style chronographs as quartz rather than as higher end autos.
