If that's the EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) what it'll do is send a signal to a satellite which will be relayed to the nearest groundstation, at which point some very pissed of members of various search and rescue teams will be alerted to your position.

They have them on ships so they can find the corpses/survivors when they sink or have to abandon ship. I assume aircraft have a similar thing, hence the Breitling having one in case the "pilot" has to eject.

Suffice to say, I wouldn't be able to resist playing with it.

Isn't it something like a 20k fine and bill for helicopter fuel. Think that would stop you smile

some good info here on the watch not read it all yet it may talk about improper use.

I think my Seamaster has an expensive feature but it might be broken. I have pressed that button at the 10 o clock position but I can't get the laser to work.

It appears to work properly on the promotional video...

I like the EPIRB function in such a small package!

I always thought the '5000m' depth meant you could take it diving to 30meters, and 100m you were ok for wearing in the shower?

My Citizen works fine at 30M and it's only certified to 300M.

I suppose you could be pulled along at 100 MPH at 30M underwater with a 5000M watch smile

M.

PS Thanks for the explanation earlier on what it is - Cool trick smile

I always thought an increasingly massive depth rating indicate the inverse likelihood of actually getting the watch wet at all.

I think it's the massive price that dictates that! smile

One of the instructors in my club was saying how he has a TAG Heuer with some amazing depth rating that he'd never risk taking diving, preferring to use an £80 Apex branded one!

[I'm a diver ] - Watches actually suitable for diving [cant remember the actual certification ] are '200m' rated..even though you could only reach that on mixed gas saturation diving! [recreational diving is 50m max , but not that common to more than 40m +/- ..

having said all that I did my open-water course wearing my $20 30m 'splash proof' casio ... it went on multiple dives to 25- 30m .. and worked just fine smile

edit : I'd never wear a really expensive watch diving - too much risk of snapping a pin or strap breaking , or smashing it .. my Suunto computer costs about 250GBP .... thats more than enought !

Magnetic resistance in a Milgauss...

So, somewhat predictably, my question is, have any PHers ever, ever used one of these features in anger, or, for that matter are you ever likely to? The ONLY specialist function I have ever used on any watch is the rolling 3 minute, or 5,4,1,0 countdown on a £30 digital sailing watch, and perhaps 5m underwater for snorkelling.

So...anyone?

(PS I know that's not the point...I'm just interested!)
You would never know if your watches mangetic resistance had saved it. hehe

OK, so not difficult to work out the time back home with some simple maths but I find this very ueful when travelling and the ability to set the hour hand independently is so much easier.

There is a tiny bar of the purest gold inside the tube under the screw, apparently worth £1,200. It is supposed to be used for emergency funds when you need to bribe/pay someone for assistance in an emergency.

Not an expensive feature, but my G shock shows temperature which I thought would be handy, it wasn't until I started wearing it that it became apparant it only shows the temperature of your wrist, not so handy!

Hmmm, looks like the useless feature on the emergency is about to get even more useless!
