Off scuba diving soon and think it's about time I bought a diving watch.

Any recommendations for something basic / entry level?

Suunto Zoop. Does everything and more than you need for only around £160.

I love my Citizen promaster,

had it years and it's been to the bottom of the sea with me on plenty of occasions, been wearing it normally lately and just treated it to one of these last night we'll see the outcome..........

You don't need a watch - you need a dive computer. Suunto do some nice computers which have some nice ones which look like watches

You want a digital diving computer that gives you at least the following:

Actual depth in real time
Water temperature min/max and current in real time
Minutes left at a particular depth in real time
Audible warining alarm when ascending to rapidly
Audible alarm when required to to a decomp stop
Minutes left at the decomp stop in real time
Time in water
Record of last several 100s of dives

the Suunto Zoop does all this and more.

I assumed the OP was asking for a dive watch in the watch forum

my mistake getmecoat

as above I use a Suunto as well, cracking bits of kit, but that doesnt give you an excuse to buy another watch does it biggrin

Dear, oh dear...

Assuming you have a Dive Computer and would ALSO like a watch for scuba diving, anything with over 200M Water Resistance will do.

I'm a big fan of my Citizen Eco-Drive (http://www.watchshop.com/mens-citizen-promaster-divers-eco-drive-watch-bn0085-01e-p99937904.html - No connection or recommendation of the company), but I only paid £109 for it and everyone loves a bargain smile

As it's Eco-Drive, it needs no continuous use or battery replacement and the display is lovely and clear, even at 30M in murky water. The strap's a proper size too, I can wear it on my wrist (was my only watch on my holiday to Cuba), but it also fits over my dry suit when I dive (not in Cuba smile ).

PS Zoops don't tell you the time underwater smile

My suunto once fell off my dry suit in very poor conditions. Luckily I found it but I guess it pays to have a watch as backup.

I've never had the requirement to know the exact time of day when on a dive and can't see a reason for it. You're down typically between 30-60mins so I can't think of a single reason for that information. The OP asked for a simple/entry level dive computer. The Zoop fits that bill perfectly and gives alot more aswell.

Something like this:

tied through one of the holes on the strap avoids losing it if you didn't do it up properly, or something on the strap or springbars breaks.

There is a case for having another watch/timer as a backup (assuming you actually remember to set/start it) - a very good idea for deco (assuming your deco plans aren't all in the computer) but a little pointless for recreational diving. Should your computer fail, you go off your buddy's one, and if that fails too then head for the surface.

Mares puck. Awesome if you want to get bent! Suunito D6 is the one to get. Does Nitrox, deep stop, multi level dive profile and probably has one of the better alogrithims.

another recommendation for. Suunto D series computers - I use a D4, works fine and is easy to use.

D6 adds a compass - but costs a fair bit more. I just use a simple walking compass for diving - also works well and is much cheaper than a dive compass.

They didn't. They asked for a watch! smile

I use mine down the pool a lot. A computer wouldn't work most of the time even if I wanted to use one, but do I want to be bobbing up and down all the time checking if it's time to get out? No.

And, of course, you should always have a fallback if your computer fails. A watch will do that quite happily.

I've no quibble with the Zoop (I've got a Vyper because I like the backlight, but otherwise the Zoop's virtually the same), but it's not a watch and not enough on its own, really.

If they're asking for recommendations for a Computer, I'd agree Zoop or Vyper (Ds are nice, but a bit expensive - and small maybe? Not sure my eyes could read one underwater these days...)

OP if you just want a watch then have a look at one of these: -

Vostok Amfibia

The guy's a top seller and the watch is brilliant for what it costs.

I don't do water, so know nothing about dive computers etc. but do like dive watches and have a few. smile

Sorry was a dive computer that I wanted - not a very experienced Scuba diver so unsure of the terms and this forum seemed close enough!

Looks like a good suggestion - thanks, will get one ordered.

Get a Vyper and you wont be sorry, It should do everything you want for your entire dive career.

I use a website called dive inn, its great value and they deliver within 2 days.

I'd agree with the Vyper, but you need to be careful about that highlighted bit.

It doesn't do gas switching, for example, which you might want to do if you dive for a while and venture into deco diving.

I think the, quite a lot dearer, Vyper Air CAN do that, but I'm not 100% sure.

Certainly the Vyper's a great first computer and even if you decide you need something more complex over time, you'll have no problem selling it for a decent proportion of the purchase price.

I'm actually not sure what the Vyper offers for the extra £50 or so these days - the low-end Suunto these days does nitrox, does PC link (not that I've ever used it), dive planning, etc. It even seems to use the same case and display now.
