I liked the idea of a gold watch on leather, spent some time waiting for the right Datejust to turn up (NZ so not plentiful) and this appeared -

Not normally a Speedmaster fan but I'm quite taken with this one. Probably going to change to a croc strap, tan or blue (may buy both)

Dear PH, after more than a year without buying anything I have fallen off the wagon.

Spotted this on ebay described as "Vintage mens watch" going for a tenner with just nine hours to go. Needless to say I didn't get it for a tenner, but the price was fair. Fuzzy picture, so it's a punt. I'm excited to see what turns up.

Can you tell what it is yet?

Then there was this...

Currnently it should be somewhere between Miami and Berkshire. My first 500 series movement. I'm usually a mechanical guy, quartz doesn't do it for me, but this isn't quartz, right? smile

+1 Yes, I'm love the distressed leather straps Tudor are using and on the Bronze it really works.

The Garrard has arrived. Looks good, but doesn't go.
The rotor is loose and the second hand get's stuck at the same point every minute.
Have left neutral feedback for the seller, the packaging wasn't really adequate, so I'll be generous and assume postal damage. Seller could have and should have mentioned the inscription on the back though.
Ho hum, I said it was a punt.

No, you're thinking of a Ventura. This one is a Sea Lectric II with a very rare back dial. I'm planning to collect it on my way home tonight.

The Ventura was the worlds first electric watch. It originally used the 500 movement and has a reputation for being horribly unreliable. This one is a few years later, the model was released in 1962, I don't know when it was withdrawn.

My Sea Lectric has a 505, which should be *more* reliable, but that's relative. I'm not brave enough to shell out for something with a 500 yet.

That said, I do have a NEED for a Meteor, regardless of movement. Allegedly only 3000 were made. Just look at the thing:

I also need a Thor and an Everest...

And a Van Horn / Titan, mustn't forget the Van Horn / Titan :

The one on the right is the VH, the other two are Titans.

Damn, I was on the wagon for so long too. weeping

In other news I took the Garrard to my watchmaker last night. There appears to be nothing wrong with the movement. The rotor is not loose. Someone has replaced the crystal and fitted the wrong one. As a result the bezel (chapter ring but without chapter ring markings if that makes any sense) is loose and rattling. The second hand is hitting it and stopping (someone has even bent the second hand to try to increase clearance. A new Crystal should fix. I wish I'd waited to post ebay feedback, the seller clearly knew this was not a go-er and advertised as "Good condition". I left neutral feedback, I was too generous.

The last watch I bought before my dry patch was a Memovox. I've been looking at Seiko and Citizen alarm watches thinking I should start a sub collection.

Really? It had the option to leave positive, neutral or negative feedback.
Those Hamilton's aren't mine, they just will be, one day!

maybe they have brought it back but there was a long period where you could only do positive or none, effectively.

Went out today to buy a black sub date after much deliberation being my first major watch purchase. Ended up buying a BLNR, not sure how it happened but I'm over the moon.

Picking it up on Wednesday.

I've wanted one of these since the release. I couldn't afford one back then, but after making a decent chunk on the sale of my BLNR, I found a 2011, just served with box and papers.

I haven't stopped wearing it and its become the perfect daily watch for me.

It's a Master Compressor.
Named because of the unique compressor locking system for the pushers.
