aha so it recalibrates itself, or rather it is recalibrated every minute by a signal from an external source, basically.

Sound like it yes. More than just a visual thing then!

Not so in the case of the watch of course.

yep looks like it mimics it by just waiting 2 seconds. Not sure that makes it worth double what i paid for my Mondaine Giant!

No but you kind of missed my point a little. £450 for a quartz is a bit crappy.

Plenty of mechanicals on the market for that kind of money.

no i'm not defending the price... however i think there are more expensive quartz watches. Most Mondaines are down under £200.

Quite. You can even spend into the thousands for some quartz models. At least the movement used in the new Stop-2-Go is bespoke to that watch, and something a bit unique.

I do wonder how easy they'll be to fix in the future, and what Mondaine will be like to deal with. My limited experiences of getting anything out of Mondaine (marketing information, and a watch I tried to order a few years ago) was rather less than stellar. Enough that it's made me very reluctant to buy from them despite loving some of their designs.

Maybe because they didn't want to downgrade the accuracy of the watch?

Bit of an update on my watch that I got in November 2013.

A few weeks ago the second hand stopped moving but the hour and minute continued to operate. I thought it was some sort of battery saving measure so left it in my watch box and carried on with some of my other watches.

I looked up the service centre so that I could send it off for a battery change but it was local to me so I dropped it off today. I've received an email saying that the battery is fine but the movement requires a service which will cost £70.

Not the end of the world but annoying on a watch that has had an easy life. I hope it's not going to be a regular thing.

How I'd everyone else getting on with theirs?

Mine went back twice because the minute would go forward at random seconds.

Looks good, lots of admirers but I wouldn't recommend one.
