Hello again.since my earlier post regarding bi metal subs I've had a rethink partially as a result of the helpful comments - so thanks for the replies.

I had another look at the ss sub and also tried on the deep sea which I felt much more at home with and I was immediately certain it's for me,which I hadn't felt with the others.it could possibly be because I'm used to big watches as I have a few breitlings including a super avenger.not being small they seem to fit me ok while things like the Daytona look too small.

I was ready to buy if offered a deal but the best 2 dealers would do was an extra year warranty and 3years interest free which I don't really need or want as an inheritance is being used to pay for it.

So the question I now have is are there any deals to be had on the deep sea which I suspect is nowhere near as popular as the ss sub.

Thanks again.
As mentioned previously I have a Deep Sea and I actually bought it because it's soo much easier to change from Breitling Avengers to a Deep Sea than it is to something like a GMT etc!

The thing about the Deep Sea is that quite a lot of people don't like it, people talk about the wording on it and that the bracelet tapers too much by the time it gets to the clasp but I LOVE mine!

With the above in mind and that I think the honeymoon is truly over with this model I think you'll get a deal, I got 14% so it IS possible, I think a dealer is more likely to discount this than a Sub, almost everyone likes Subs, not everyone likes the DSSD!

Also seems that there is one in every ADs window unlike years ago!

Alternatively Andrew Michaels had a few used ones in stock and he's VERY nice to deal with!

What is weird is ADs being prepared to offer 0% finance on watches that they refuse to discount. Whoever provides the finance isn't doing it for free because they love seeing people with new Sports Rolex on.

I'd be intrigued to know the finance cost to the AD and why anyone would pay cash for one when due to the never ending steep inflation we are exposed to, it's cheaper to finance?

It's all just smoke and mirrors so they're not seen to actually discount. Through my employer I can get Goldsmiths gift cards at -12%, but I have to order a card, top it up etc, takes about 5 days to organise. I asked Goldsmiths, if you know about the cards and I can prove who my employer is, can't you just give me the 12% and save the rigmarole! they said no.

Local AD informed me that it was either a discount for cash, or full price on interest free, as the IF can't be used in conjunction with "any other offer".

That was where Ernest Jones were good, 10% off with Signet card and IF.

Yeah that's true but then they won't discount on some models (well just SS rolex sports really) but will offer the finance.

I got the impression that there might be some movement, even on a SS model, assuming you didn't want it on IF finance.

Never thought about that, just checked our corporate discounts and I get 15% off at Goldsmiths, thanks!

No problem, and if it's something non Rolex that you can buy online, using your corporate discount and Quidco can take you up to 27-30% at times. So worth a look for a Omega etc.

Well thanks for all the advice.

I went ahead and bought a deep sea sd today.I was offered interest free again which I didn't want so I got a half price service whenever it is needed.

My first Rolex and I'm really pleased with it and for me the DSSD is the right one although I know it's not everyone's choice. As it'll never be sold resale issues don't come into it.I was lucky to be able to compare it with a SS sub date and ended up with no doubt that for me the DSSD was the one.

Thanks again.

I had a look at a Daytona rose gold ceramic bezel in Harrods a few weeks ago and was offered 10% off,a spare leather strap thrown in,and 3% cashback in Harrods points without even trying.

I don't think you can compare a precious metal Rolex (especially RG) with a SS tbh re discounts.

I fancy one of those Daytonas myself!

When my local AD was closing down last year they were quietly discounting their remaining SS stock (ie gmt2c,dssd,sub non ceramic) by 20%.My gmt2c was bought from them at 15% discount the year before they closed.

FANTASTIC!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

The micro adjuster on the clasp is very cool isn't it and the whole watch feels as though it will last forever don't you think!

It will! Just as long as you don't wear the bracelet loose!

They did a tax-free deal, since I was in Afghanistan (military, go figure) and I was legally entitled to buy tax-free goods.

So I had 20% off, but joining the military and going on an op-tour isn't a practical option for most, ha!
Minor point, but VAT free is not 20% off wink

You cant sue a corporate discount and quidco.

My corporate discount comes via buying cards at 88% of face value, you can use those to pay online. If you do the transaction via Quidco, and then pay using the card you'd get both.
