Thanks for posting, just spent an hour (i'm a slow reader wink ) reading this. No way with my pig tits could I do anything like this, but it is great to see the processes.

Pig tits...hands, or hands like cows tits wink. Your hands bear the marks of your trade, at the end of 28days so do mine, and they seem to lack the delicate motor skills I assume you need for that delicate work.

Really odd job to do today. Making a really heavy Yankee Candle ring (will be circa 130g when done) for a UFC athlete. Cast it in clay from an actual candle package.

I'll put some more pics up once he's told me what size to make the shank.

I can't for the life of me figure out how that huge thing will become a ring.

Has the mahoosive diamond been set yet. It will be nice to see that finished.

I was going to ask the same, but then felt I would get the parrot so thought better of it....

Should be updated / finished in the next couple of weeks (along with me getting paid...lol). Customer is on holiday I believe so keep your ear to the ground.

Ref the Yankee candle ring. Yeah, i'm struggling to imagine the finished article too. Its a bit of a whopper. It's going to weigh a tonne, I just hope its not going to be worn when he starts his next season of UFC. Ouch face!

Good stuff. looking forward to it.

It's items like this UFC ring that are the most fun.
It's like reading a good book. Us readers don't know what's going to happen until the end with suspense in the middle. smile

Hope you're OK matey!

I have to ask; I now know what a 'yankee candle' is after googling, but what's the relevance? confused

Morning!

Nothing major to add to the Yankee candle build other than to say its finished and the customer is over the moon. Good thing too as he's quite scary! Final weight on the finger was 86g.

Making a simple shank: take a bar of 14ct gold and roll it down to make a 6mm x 2.5mm flat strip.

Turn it to make a rough 'ring' shape.

Once its the right shape and size the open ends are profiled (pic missing) and the shank is soldered to the head. The size of this item means it needs a lot of heat.

Give it a good polish and rhodium plate the label plate and hey presto.

And there you have it.

As for 'the rock', it's still not in yet. You know how it goes though, the bigger the fish the longer the wait. Just hope its soon as my first born is due in the next few weeks.

To add a bit of variation I've been servicing this beauty over the past week. Hand made, amazing craftsmanship from back when modern machinery and tools were not even an option.

Not sure myself actually. When I asked him he said 'only 2 things in my life have been reliable: dogs and Yankee candles'.
I left it at that. You can find him on YouTube. Look up 'Jimmy Justice Miller'.

I hope your enforced lay-off was because you were on a Sun lounger pool-side and not a Hospital bed corridor-side.
Was neither actually. I was a naughty boy (not that bad) on here so got 7 days detention. Wrists slapped and lessons learned. Lol.

Did just get my latest chemo results though. Somehow im still managing to surprise the doctors. The tumour is still shrinking after 6 sessions and the colorectal nurse thought the scan was post-op rather than post-chemo given how effective the treatments are for me. Hoping it's going to be done and dusted soon.

All the best with that: my uncle has moved from chemo to radio so is hopefully on a similar path.
