Great thread, just read from start to finish.

Hope your feeling better Eddie, keep your chin up chap.

I'm getting married in May, Mrs Tack and I still haven't got wedding rings though...

She has a Palladium & Diamond engagement ring and we're told you shouldn't mix metals for the wedding band? Personally I'd rather reset the diamond in Platinum but she's not so keen as she want to keep it as it's 'her ring'... Is it really a bad idea having palladium and platinum sat next to each other?

I also want a simple, silver/white gold band for myself. I have no idea what style though..

Maybe a visit to your store is needed...

Thank you very much, I bet that took you a while!

Yeah, I'm all good thanks. The chemo has left a bit of a legacy but I've got the London Marathon to focus on and my 8 month old son so I don't get much room to complain. My next scan is in May so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all is as it should be.

Congratulations on your impending marriage. May is still miles away regarding wedding rings. Simple stuff is very quick and easy to turn around so don't panic.

Doh!! You fell into the Palladium trap too frown

Palladium was marketed as a cost effective alternative to Platinum during the recession. The fact is that you get what you pay for unfortunately. Palladium becomes brittle over time and is much softer than Platinum so it does bend and mark very easily. It is easily polished but unfortunately it cannot be plated like white gold and platinum. The problem with that is that very few people will touch it for sizing etc. Joints cannot be covered by the plating and after heat from soldering the Palladium becomes even more brittle and is always at risk of cracking through any existing joints.

If you can convince her I'd always recommend upgrading to Platinum. It's just a better metal and will last a lifetime if looked after. If she is dead set on keeping the Palladium mount you shouldn't have any issues with using Platinum as a wedding ring. You'll have more issues using Palladium or white Gold.

Simple is fine. PM me with a budget and I'll give you some options. What does she have in mind for herself? Any diamonds in the wedding band?

Stunning. Are you able to source diamonds to spec Eddie? Seeing that has got me thinking about upgrading the wife's ring.
Sure can Neil. Just let me know what you want and I'll get some stones in for you to look at.
Great. I suppose for a stone of 2 carats plus, we're looking at 5 figures? Might need to do some saving first! biggrin

Just sold a 2.48ct for £10500 so decent 2cts can be found for upper 4 figures smile

Do you do designing as well?

I think I emailed you about this before your illness - my wife's engagement ring was a white gold lattice with 12 tiny diamonds on, it fell off and got squashed a while back. I've been thinking about turning the gold and remaining diamonds (some were lost, sadly) into an eternity ring of some sort, but I don't know what would work.

Hi mate,

Yeah I design also. Send me a message when you've got some ideas tied down and we'll work something out.

P.S. I'll get another 'unusual job' post up very soon. Just got to find something a little different to show you all.

I really enjoy seeing anything to be honest. What might seem dull to you is probably fascinating for the rest of us. Even turning a bit of gold bar into a plain ring.

A little bump for this thread as I recently visited the OP's shop and bought a beautiful eternity ring for my wife. Eddie also resized and cleaned up my wife's other rings and made the whole experience easy and enjoyable.

A friendly, talented and genuine PH'er thumbup

Many thanks, best of luck with the next course of treatment & I'll look forward to the next installment of this thread...

Hello Eddie
I hope you don't mind me contacting you at this time but Joe (Variomatic) has recommended you in connection with a service he might be doing for me. The work involves a repair to a gold Omega Seamaster case back. Would you be interested?
Many thanks
Joe

I know what this is about and would be very interested to find out what can or can't be done... I'm sure V8s4me won't mind me saying, he has a 9ct gold watch back with an inscription that he'd like "disappeared".

Generally engraving can be removed using a laser, although it does assume a certain thickness to the metal where the engraving is location.

As a price guide, assuming there is sufficient depth to remove with a laser and re-polish, the cost would be circa £100 including VAT.

Hi Eddie,
I have been a keen lurker for some time now and love your updates on this thread and I hope your health is still improving.

I have come here today for a bit of advice if you would? I am looking to have a replacement engagement ring made for Mrs WES77Y and already have a donor platinum ring for the material which i hope can be used, I am hoping you can quote me at some point to manufacture this item once the funds allow! hopefully after Christmas ,in the mean time i am looking at purchasing a diamond for said ring and I was wondering best place to buy? looking at 1 - 2 ct princess cut and i see a few on eBay but am very wary although I should be covered if i receive a load of rubbish, i have bought many great items this way inc jewelry but never a diamond with such value, what would you advise please?

Thanks in advance - Gary.`

PS anyone else who feels they have something worthwhile to add please chip in but please play nice - cheers.
