A bit of cleaning later and it came up lovely. I'll do the repair tomorrow:

yikes That is a staggering difference. Will the customer recognise it when they come to collect it? laugh

The phrase "that's not my......" Is one I've heard many times. Never for an actual lost item I must add. Always ends with a happy customer.

I can't believe someone would:
A: Continue to wear something that foul and dirty- it must have stunk.
B: Think it OK to hand it in for repair without been even a little embarrassed!

I bought an ultrasonic cleaner effort from Aldi for not a lot of money , use it about every month to keep the dragons collection of jewellery clean.

Like personal hygiene there is no excuse for uncleanliness.

Don't clean anything with stones in the Ultrasonic at home. If they are at all loose in the settings they will wear away the surrounding metal and become more loose and fall out ion time. I see it regularly. Best fluid solution to put in the US is simple washing up liquid. Nothing more abrasive than that.

The same people that believe Jeremy Kyle is an actual window into the world outside. I have ways of making sure I skim the wheat from the chaff when it comes to accepting jobs over the counter. Pricing them out of the shop is the best way to avoid disease.

I wouldn't agree with this advice. Ultrasonic cleaners are very effective - yes, if the stones are loose they can fall out. But the issue is that they are loose, not that they are being cleaned.

To suggest that the ultrasonic wears away the metal isn't correct in my opinion.

Ok, to clarify...

The US does not wear away the material. That would be stupid. The incredibly hard stones rattling around in the soft metal wears it away. I've known customers leave jewellery in the US for hours and then wonder why it's fallen apart in the machine. It's not really designed for that sort of thing. Home cleaning is fine but the average Joe won't read the instructions and is only keen on saving money on having it cleaned by a jeweller. We can argue the toss, but I use them every day and clean probably 500 items a week in them.

I'm not interested in debating the finer points either on this. Just read your original post and I didn't agree with your advice / information. You've now clarified it, so fair enough.

We're not here to argue Eddie. I think you misread my original post and my explanation simply repeated it in a different manner.

Anyway, back to the topic. wink

I didn't misread it - just didn't agree with it.

Sorry if I was getting in the way of your adverts smile

Absolutely not. Please read again what I wrote - it related to a side point about a difference of opinion regarding whether it is appropriate for the general public to use ultrasonic cleaners for cleaning jewellery.

This happens to be my profession as well, hence why I feel able to comment.

Advert or not, this thread has happily run for nearly 3 years now and many, many cobtributions from many people. You are the first to have a problem with it! And while my memory is being jiggled i recall you've made a similar injection at least twice in here.

You do what you do and I do what I do. I understand your opinion regarding ultrasonics but I still think you have misread my original comment. But that's not important in the scheme of things. I'll continue back on the bench as normal.

Your advert comment has however highlighted that you and I will never share a hot shower, which is unfortunate.

Apologies if anyone misread my ultrasonic comment. They are great for cleaning jewellery, but use with care

Think you are being a bit over sensitive... let's be honest, the thread is a bit of advert but, as you say, people enjoy it so that's fine as far as I am concerned.

My original comment was just to offer a different opinion on the ultrasonic cleaners, that's all.
