Hi guys,

Sorry for the gap since my last post. I've just opened a new and improved workshop nearer home so will post up a bunch of pictures of an interesting job when I get chance.

Happy New Year all

Eddie
Eddie have you moved to the high street in Ringwood next to the barbers?
Yep. And it's already proving to be a great move smile

It depends on the damage but we can either replace the stone or recut the diamond to remove the chip. The weight lost would depend on the depth of the chip

Hello all! Long time no post wink

Well, we are now firing on all cylinders in our new shop / workshop. There are a couple of shop front bits left to complete but otherwise the workshop and main customer area is up and running. The interest in the new site has been really positive and we are already getting booked up for private work well into the spring as well as picking up another 2 trade customers in the past week. Busy busy!

Anyway, you lot come here for the pics, not the chat. This is one I made today: 18ct white gold wedding ring to match her existing engagement ring.

Starting point is a nice lump of fresh 18ct white gold:

Little bit of bending and shaping:

And it's starting to look like something useful:

The blank is given a bit of a clean before the next phase, the claws and setting:

The stone positions are marked out:

And then some drilling commences:

The next step is to mark where the claws will lie and then notch them in:

The claws are then added. One side:

And the other:

Once the ring is cleaned up it is time to start setting the diamonds:

With the stones all laid in the claws are then pressed down and tidied up:

The ring is then polished and plated:

And done:

Wow.

I thought it was done without the diamonds, just the way you made the ring spoon into the other ring as a 'pair' was fantastic, but then you added the stones starting and finishing to mirror the other - exceptional.

I am sure there is no cheap option smile she had to have the platinum ring re-made as she ttted it on something and bent it. Now she's ttted it on something and cracked the diamond. I've got the MiL in my ear telling me she isn't careless and that none of her jewellery has ever done this and she never takes her rings off.... etc etc. I tend to think she doesn't deserve nice things now!!

Can I ask? On that last ring, won't the claws rub away as the two rings touch? (Not that I know nowt, just wondered)

There is that risk yes. But..... being the forward thinking egg that I am I have a solution.

After the wedding the customer will have the 2 rings tacked together at the bottom so they sit perfectly and don't rub

Eddie,

I've loved reading this thread. I am hoping you can take a look at a silver chain that I bought my wife when she gave birth to our daughter. She's worn it for 18 years and it needs a bit of a refurbish - I've sent some pictures to the yahoo account in your profile.

JB.

Which one was your missus? Did I set a CZ for her in a turquoise ring?

May well have been she said something about a stone falling out of a ring & you reset it.

Was the bald dog not there?

She said she liked your prices!
