Did you not consider JLC's own grey with red stitching that Tim has on his Ruthenium dial model, or was it simply too much money for all it was?
Didn't know Tim's was a JLC OEM strap! I bought this one as a quickie to fit and like having straps custom made - £180 gets me a croc strap made to my child-like wrist size with only one pinhole, single fixed keeper, the curve and thickness I want and so on. It's a nice process and not far off half the price of JLC!!

I might be a little bit in love... brand new grey alligator from Jean Rousseau on Piccadilly and it looks brand spanking new and a very nice size at a small-wearintg 40mm. Dark blue croc with red stitching on order smile
Very nice.

Did you visit Jean Rousseau or order by phone / online? How was the ordering process?

Here's my contribution, a Seamaster chrono - apologies for the poor photograph from my IPad. Other than a Rado Diastar it's the first (though hopefully not the last) decent watch I've had.

Yeti, couldn't help noticing that you've put a shark mesh bracelet on yours. How's the "feel" of it relative to the original bracelet ?

It's very nice, but I like the look of shark mesh - it might not be for everyone! I did it because I don't have the tools to change the Omega pin bracelet and haven't had time to get someone else to do it for me. It's a wjean mesh from eBay and TBH is absolutely NOWHERE near the feel quality of the correct Omega shark mesh shown on my older Seamaster here. As always you get what you pay for, but it's probably good enough, not paying a couple of hundred, it's a knockabout watch for the beach and rock bashing.

I went in there, they are in Piccadilly so was able to convince myself that's on the way home from Dom Hacketts at Hatton Garden wink

Jerome does great work and they always come out even better than I expected. The ordering process is done by the lovely Yuriko who doesn't miss a thing and the options to make something unique are endless and a lot of fun (for a nerd). Sifting through all the colours, types and textures of hides is great.

Their current waiting list is 4-6 weeks though as obviously their Paris branch is closed at the moment - it is August after all rolleyes

What are the collective thoughts on this one then?

I currently have this one >

Anyone know a good place to get deals on new Longines watches?
Longines are very good watches IMO. I have a Longines Master Collection in stainless steel with a steel bracelet, and the finish/engineering is superb. The bracelet is a work of art ( I had to remove a link when I bought mine !) and the quality is better than, for example, my Omega Seamaster ( pre coaxial ) and indeed my Rolex Datejust with an Oyster S/S bracelet.
Longines is an understated brand ( well maybe not the Hydroconquest models !), and the chrono in the OP first post would be well worth getting.

I seem to recall that Longines are looked down upon by watch snobs. But I have always found something nice looking in their collection. That Heritage at the top is handsome.

??? Not on this board - Longines regularly recommended on here, especially their diver!

They also have great heritage and my ex-FIL has a beautiful, limited edition piece that was a match for anything else out there in quality...

Hmm, making me think if I should try a JB Champion mesh on my pre-pro Speedy scratchchin

It appears to be a common choice from a quick read-up but they look a bit odd where they join the case (IMO)

Yes very smart. Does that little part on the end of the crown actually do anything?

I used to look down on Longines but the Legend Diver I have is one of my favourite pieces.

I'd have no hesitation in recommending Longines & I will be buying others.

I bought my missus one a while back, she wears it daily and it's been excellent and hard-wearing.

It makes it easier to pull the crown out from the guard smile

I've a Longines Legend Diver, used to own a Conquest Chrono, both great watches in their own different ways.

Had this on for the last couple of days, it has the best dial and handset of any watch I've ever owned and, bar a 5711, the best I've ever handled. Shame all my shots of it have been taken with a mobile...
