Sea Dweller 16600 back on the wrist today as the GMT II is off to RSC, here in the States!
IT's cheaper to service them here, so they are all going back before I move back to the UK, one at a time!
No picture (as you all know how rubbish my Blackberry pics are) but having had the GMT on solidly for the last few weeks/ months and falling head over heels for it, I am now re-appreciating my 16600 and it's back to 'favourite' status as it just feels so solid and well engineered but not the behemoth that my DSSD was.
I will ask the dealer who will send my GMT II for its service if they can call me when the new SD4000 comes in... May put myself on the list now!

I used to feel this way, but have worn my DSSD on a regular real life basis and feel completely different about it given time.The "classic" sea dweller is no doubt a great watch but I feel it lacks modern day credentials. Amazing considering rolex don't normally make huge leaps forward in watch design.

The more and longer I wore my DSSD, the less I got on with it, to be honest! It used to be my daily and was always in the way and could be 'felt' at all times. And I don't have small wrists... To each their own, I suppose and I think it's a cool piece and has some interesting technology for the depth rating but I think the beauty of the SD is that it has stood the test of time.The "classic" sea dweller is no doubt a great watch but I feel it lacks modern day credentials. I would guess that the real reason that Rolex has just brought out a new SD4000 (which is, frankly, very similar to the 'old' model) is that people didn't 'take' to the DSSD and it hasn't been a great business success. The SD is just more popular and second hand prices have been strengthening since the DSSD was released.
The reason I might swap my 16600 for a new SD4000 is for the ceramic bezel and glidelock clasp (covering your "modern day credentials") and then what 'benefits' will a DSSD have? A depth rating that no one, and I mean literally 'no one', will ever use. It may well be a good buy for the future as I suspect manufacturing volumes were relatively low, meaning it will be relatively rare in say 20 years time.
Again - I bought one because it was cool and know a few people who love theirs but there is no way you could tempt me into a DSSD over an SD4000, especially since the latter will be cheaper! The Sub range endures because it is a timeless, classic design and has a depth rating and in-house movement, which will always mean it is on a par with anything 'modern' that comes out. I can't help but feel that the DSSD was Rolex attempt at cashing in on the 'big watch' market by hiding behind the depth rating, forcing them to make such a large case. They got the bracelet link and lug sizes very, very wrong.
