So, am on the hunt for a new watch and wondered which country is the cheapest in the world to buy a Rolex from?

The US (the jeweller I usually buy from) is about 12% cheaper than over here in the UK and I'm there fairly regularly. Just wondered where in the world is cheapest?

Oman is -22% from UK, and you can usually get a discount on that also.

Would be nice if you could e-mail the dealers from Rolex's site!

I can't seem to get a discount on what I want below retail in the UK or US. Maybe in Oman.

Hong Kong is quite cheap. No sales tax/VAT.

I bought a GMT 1 (all black bezel - does this have a nick name like the red/blue Pepsi, or red/black Coke?) in 1997 from an authorized dealer who was a good friend of a relative. He said they were allowed to discount a maximum of 17% on the normal oyster styles and 12% on the sports models (in 1997). There is probably a max. margin they are allowed to discount on in the UK. However, don't they then offer freebies like leather 'Rolex' wallets/passport holders etc. to close the sale.

Now it seems that tiny HK is the worlds biggest buyer of Swiss watches. Bigger than USA! A lot of customers come from China (where there is a 100% luxury goods tax).

I still live in HK and it is amusing reading about waiting lists and availability on this site. All the authorized dealers seem to have a lot of stock - if you have the money, there is no waiting.
I passed by a second hand dealer where there must have been ~ 10 Daytonas in the window (incl. an African dictator/diamonds markers/leopard print dial with matching leather strap?)

I don't understand all this waiting list bks. I know of 3 jewellers in UK who have physical stock of Daytona (SS) to sell as and when.

I just don't want to pay list!!

Given the number appearing in my office recently and associated comments the Rolex shop at Geneva airport has competitive prices.

My wife was in singapore recently and they had a SS Daytona but a quick conversion put it at the same price as the grey market dealers in the UK.

On another note, i cant send PMs but if Jules360 could PM me with the source in Saudi to buy a new Daytona SS for £7k ish then i would be much appreciative.

I have a SS GMT II circa 1993, a SS Sub Date circa 1998 and a TT Sub with Certi Dial circa 2000. It was great when the dealers were doing IFC as i was not long out of Uni and living at home for nowt so used to buy one every 2 years or so.

thank you

Found a place in Dubai last week selling the new Blue/Black GMT for about £5100 and Explorer 2s were about £4300 if I remember correctly. Breitlings and Omegas were more expensive than the UK. Wish I'd bought the GMT now....
