It's no more contrived than a picture of a watch on a wrist with a beige carpet in the background and some Ikea furniture. It's a pic of a watch which gives us all an idea of how one looks in real life. I'm failing to see the issue. There are pictures of people with diving watches diving and aviator watches in cockpits yet they don't come under the same ridicule for some reason on this forum.
Of course it is. Especially when people make a point of getting the steering wheel badge in the shot too!

People go out and pose in their cars to take these pictures (or are you suggesting they're just driving along and think, "Oh, I must photograph my watch!"?), whereas I can't imagine anyone stands in front of their beige carpet and Ikea furniture specifically, they're just there!

It used to be a popular advertising stock, but it's become a cliché some people fall into. Maybe they didn't deserve ridicule, but a little ribbing is definitely in order.

Flying's a bit cooler than driving (nearly EVERYONE drives) so I guess the ridicule is less (From experience, I'd say it helps with the boredom if you're flying an airliner too!) and diving, well, I suppose it's the novelty of seeing a "Diver's watch" actually getting wet! biggrin

As it happens I did just this today....

I was having a coffee whilst parked at the A12 services and reading PH on my iPhone and thought - Rolex thread, I'll take a photo of my new watch and post it (as hundreds have done and will continue to do). I happened to be in my car and thought, it's PH and we're all petrolheads and some of my interior will be in shot, may as well show the M symbol.

Sorry if I spoilt your day wink

We could start a "dials and dials" thread. Or just hijack this one wink

Here's one I took earlier, possibly just for this thread. My Japanese Seiko with my Japanese Zed, proud of both of them yes

How about wrist shot on my skateboard, so you get to show off your watch and your skateboard design? Oh, only me, then.
