Cars and watches

Of course it is. Especially when people make a point of getting the steering wheel badge in the shot too!
People go out and pose in their cars to take these pictures (or are you suggesting they're just driving along and think, "Oh, I must photograph my watch!"?), whereas I can't imagine anyone stands in front of their beige carpet and Ikea furniture specifically, they're just there!
It used to be a popular advertising stock, but it's become a cliché some people fall into. Maybe they didn't deserve ridicule, but a little ribbing is definitely in order.
Flying's a bit cooler than driving (nearly EVERYONE drives) so I guess the ridicule is less (From experience, I'd say it helps with the boredom if you're flying an airliner too!) and diving, well, I suppose it's the novelty of seeing a "Diver's watch" actually getting wet!

I disagree. All watch photos are staged it's just one setting irks some peoplePeople go out and pose in their cars to take these pictures (or are you suggesting they're just driving along and think, "Oh, I must photograph my watch!"?), whereas I can't imagine anyone stands in front of their beige carpet and Ikea furniture specifically, they're just there!

I agree that flying is that much cooler though.
I guess we have many different types of posters on this subforum which is part of the larger Pistonheads community.
The watch forum is about watches and in general cars do not figure in the threads. I think this is one of the reasons why the watch forum is generally a more polite and hospitable place than some of the other subforums.
From my personal point of view, when I am taking a photo of one of my watches to post up, say a wrist shot for the "Wristcheck" thread then I try to photograph the watch and nothing else. Surely that is the whole point of the thread. In my case, I tend to photograph using the background of my desk at work as this is the easiest and most convenient. I deliberately ensure that everything in the background is out of focus. I cannot think of any circumstances in which I would pop out to one of my cars to get a shot of the watch on my wrist and deliberately ensure that the steering wheel emblem or some other distinguishing feature was in focus.

Indeed his may, but the wallet more than makes up for it.I was going to say his taste, but then just remembered the recent acquisition – so that kicks that notion into touch!

It's basically the same car as the Porsche Cayenne .......same chassis ,same suspension and same engine and gearbox.....it's nippy for a 2200kg vehicle 0-60 7.6sec ........but it doesn't have same negative image as a Porsche

I like your vw as it happens - solid, reliable, quality but with regard to a Porsche cayenne, macan etc...what negative image? Personally, drug dealers aside, I think they generally show you've done well for yourself.Martin_M said:
