Based in Singapore. In theory you may have to pay customs duty but most don't.

How much did you have to pay? Is it relative to the price of the watch?

It'll be VAT (20%) plus a handling charge. So reckon on about 25% of what you paid on top.

Would like to try them again but won't risk it.
Are there any others out there I can try?

Sky Watches? I haven't used them so this isn't a recommendation.

I have used skywatches for walk-in purchase in Singapore.

I like them : they are authorised dealers and have a real shop where you can look at stock.

( I believe Creation are not authorised seiko stockists IIRC)

Seiko Monster Stainless Strap from Sky Watches - took about a week to arrive from Singapore - no duty to pay and what a cracking strap for the money!

£60 on Amazon UK and it cost me about £38 from Sky Watches

Easy transaction
