i clicked on this thread because it had an eye-catching title. After reading some of the angry & amusing responses, i thought i'd stick up for the person who wrote the article in the Telegraph.
Can I ask why? Did you just fancy an argument? argue
I was hoping to inject a bit of sanity into the thread, but i think it had the opposite effect. hehe

What views about the watch industry did H22 express? He highlighted that Rolex doesn't pay tax, which is probably true because of its charitable status. (Before someone gets pedantic, it's the charitable status of the Wilsdorf Foundation.)

All H22 has done is to convey the sentiments of many non-WIS. His only crime is to have done so on a forum for horological enthusiasts!
I think it really touched a nerve with some people in here. Nobody likes being told that they're stupid or gullible.

A similar thing would happen if you went into the Aston Martin forum and posted a piece of journalism titled "Aston Martin customers are all deluded, middle-aged, pot-bellied men who think they're James Bond and have more money than sense"

I think you'd be on the receiving end of some serious vitriol there as well.

The problem with you is you have idea what you're talking about.

You wish to inform us we're stupid but you complain in many threads about being mid 30's with a dead end job, renting your house and clearly have no concept of wealth - not exactly a position of influence is it.

Back on topic my Rolex is worth more than I paid for it. Yes I'm stupid.

Mr Gould, you do manage to come across as a bit of an arse, but I find myself thinking in the real world I would actually rather like you. It perturbs me no end :-)

Sounds unlikely, what interest rate have you used?

Why does it sound unlikely?

Rolex RRPs have gone up a lot in recent years, which has improved resale values of used watches. The cost of the occasional service, of course, should be taken off any 'profit'. Inflation obviously needs to be taken into account too.

No hate in that sentence, just a simple question.

I think it is clear from H22's 'contributions' in other threads that his views are strongly held and aren't just for argument's sake.

What started with me at dismay at comments like "vile watch buyers", now, after seeing his other posts, has turned to a sort of pity.

H22- I wish you well with your life and hope your lot improves. If it does and as a consequence you crack a smile, do come back to the watch forum and let your pals know.

I've sold 3 Rolex's in the past 2 years all of which I have made a profit .

Just to add to the conversation I've just paid £3500 for a painting which includes a dog turd in it .......does that make me stupid smile

What you did, was simply to post in a section of Pistonheads you know nothing about. Your contribution was therefore, zero.

Thanks though rolleyes

I've just re-read your contribution to this thread and have withdrawn my earlier defence of you........I'm afraid your comments are either trolling or at best, just sad

Arguing to acquire the bear minimum you need is always a dodgy platform usually inhabited by communists or socialists. That or your names is Vince Cable.

The only good thing about that article is that it doesn't start with...

As you said on another thread: May i suggest that you actually read what i type in context, rather than what YOU think i've typed.

You're in the Watch Forum posting an anti-expensive watch rant. So my point is this:

1. You've post more than once in here and elsewhere about how you see no point in expensive watches. In fact you a)think those with expensive watches are pathetic and b)you'd rather throw 5 grand out of a helicopter than buy an expensive watch. Given your stance you dont understand, enjoy or 'get' watches. That's my first point - you have no idea what you're talking about with regards to watches apart from your own view on the cost of them.

2. My second point was that you like to cast a view on having aspirations yet your own life doesn't reflect any success in having aspirations based on your own posts - I didn't know anything about you until you posted those things so you have conveyed this view. So who are you to inform and educate on aspirations when you seem to have little yourself or at least the ones you did have haven't worked out.

3. Concept of wealth - I didn't say being wealthy, I said 'wealth' which covers the whole topic - again you show a complete lack of achievement and therefore quite rightly who are you to preach to others your viewpoint on this.

My post had nothing to do with my own financial position and all to do with your credence in purveying your view.
