Except that H22 has repeatedly made it clear he isn't ranting against people who buy watches or expensive watches, just people who by watches/stuff JUST to boast and show off.
Or, perhaps more accurately, people he thinks buy stuff to show off.

This topic should probably be in the lounge to be fair. It isn't about specific watches. It's about an article that comments on a certain type of person, who buys watches BECAUSE they are expensive & exclusive.

Or a Range Rover status symbol with 20" alloy wheels. rofl

Do you go off-road much?
To me it's a car, a very capable car but then we are on a petrol head site and posting on a watch forum.
What is a Range Rover capable of that other cars are not capable of? I fear that top-end Range Rovers could be bought by a similar type of person, to the above. They're certainly not the fastest or best handling car in the £50000-£90000 price bracket.

I'll understand if you bought it for the Prestige, heritage, image, looks, status or exclusivity. Many people do. It's better to be honest with yourself though.[/

Life is too short to " fear" why people acquire materialistic chattels.

Vision is great, comfort is superb and the off road capability is fantastic even with stock tyres. Nothing comes close. Given people's perception of large 4 x 4 is largely negative I really don't care what other think.

It's also great to look down at C U Next Thursday like you. wink

Best not rush to generalise so indiscriminately with your challenged view of people.

Wow this thread is still going? So what are the conclusions? Are men stupid or not? Personally I find it a bit sexist as it doesn't suggest that women are stupid for doing similar things. As with all things in life you have people who would have bought so called expensive watches/cars etc etc because of the engineering and workmanship and abilities that were exhibited by these products. However, as these particular objects gained notoriety because of said abilities, fashion customers began to enter the market and as watch manufacturers are businesses they obviously cater to whoever is willing to buy from them hence you will have a mix of people as customers. So, hopefully to put an end to this discussion, the answer is some men and also some women are stupid and some are not. Suppose 29 pages did keep a few people entertained though

MrAstonMartin appears to be reinforcing the negative stereotype of a Range Rover driver.

Give them enough rope and they usually hang themselves.

Negative stereotypes of a Range Rover driver ? What, you mean the purveyor of the finest, best engineered four wheel drive car on the planet - which also happens to be made in the UK & simultaneously keeps several thousand people in gainful employment ?

Think it's perhaps your own preconceptions that are at fault here as opposed to someone who has the drive and determination to be able to afford such a vehicle - not to mention a rather beautiful V8 Vantage

For someone who is posting on a motoring forum (and on a watch sub-section), you certainly appear to dislike both subjects. Still, I suppose it fulfils your all too obvious craving for attention, even if it's all of a negative nature. Ho hum.

This thread is getting boring now.

We seem to be going round in circles, with insults flying left right and centre.

It was amusing to start with, quite funny at times, but it's getting quite personal now, schoolboy stuff, never a good thing.

No 99% of people on this thread buy things they like. 1% of the people on this thread do not like them doing so.

I'd suggest you won't ever understand the people who want to buy expensive watches and they won't understand your lack of interest so pointless to discuss further.
Yes, it's like going to a concert and announcing that you hate the band and have no idea why people are there... But not actually leaving yourself.

Actually Stovey you're defending him when he has stated this before and this is why people are at him:

The fact that somebody would pay £5000 for a pointless watch speaks volumes about their character. These people are pathetic and richly deserve to get mugged by a like-minded person from the ghetto.

I'll remember that next time I see one stuck on the hard shoulder, or on the back of a breakdown truck, or behind one and the rear lights are faulty.

Anyone else noticed you see more one eyed R/Rovers (a headlight out) coming towards you than any other vehicle on the road (apart from maybe Landrovers).

If a bulb is out, wait until it goes in for a service at the end of the year. Couldn't possibly mingle with all the plebs in Halfords and one is far too successful and busy to change a bulb. smile

You've just linked a thread where you called me a "monumental knob" with no provocation.

A bit childish? Your arguing for the sake of it. You have an opinion, other people have an opinion, they are not the same. No one is going to change your mind and you are not going to change anyone elses mind. Just leave it.

Actually he linked to a post where you referred to certain sections of society as the underclass. Maybe try reading before condemning. It's means more and carries more weight when trying to put down someone else's point.

Unfortunately, most of your points won't carry any weight as you like to stereotype people too much as highlighted by your need to chastise one section of society for buying luxury goods and then referring to another as the underclass. It would appear that you despise everyone except yourself and those who support your version of events
